Railroaders beat Wingnuts on walk-off error07/26/2017 9:51 PM Article By: CLEBURNE, Texas -- Alex Polston finished a homer shy of the cycle and scored the game-winning run, and the Railroaders walked off the Wingnuts, 5-4, to open a 14-game homestand at The Depot on Wednesday night. Polston singled to begin the ninth inning, and Cleburne then loaded the bases with nobody out. After a popout and a strikeout, Wichita first baseman Matt Chavez dropped the ball from shortstop Leo Vargas after he dove to grab it behind second base, and Polston scored from third for Cleburne’s fifth walk-off of 2017. It was the second three-hit game of Polston’s season, and Geraldo Valentin finished 3-for-5 with two doubles and two RBI. Ermindo Escobar hit a solo homer in the second -- his first of the season -- and K.C. Huth went 1-for-3 with an RBI. Alberto Rodriguez went 5.1 innings and gave up three runs on four hits with four walks and eight strikeouts, while Cortland Cox and Casey Upperman combined for three scoreless innings of relief. Wingnut starter Tim Brown gave up four runs on eight hits over six innings, and Austin Boyle gave up an unearned run on two hits in 0.2 innings. The Railroaders snapped a three-game losing streak, while the Wingnuts extended a franchise-record eight-game losing streak. The Railroaders and Wingnuts will continue a four-game series on Thursday. Game time is 7:06 p.m. and can be heard live on the Railroaders Radio Network with pregame beginning 20 minutes prior. |
