Railroaders wrap up 16-game homestand with 3-1 win

 CLEBURNE, Texas -- Jorge Martinez went a season-long seven innings, and the Cleburne Railroaders salvaged the finale of a three-game set with a 3-1 win over the Texas AirHogs at The Depot on Wednesday night.

Martinez gave up just one run on four hits with four strikeouts, and newcomer Derrick Pyles drove in his first two runs as a Railroader with two separate RBI singles in the first and third innings.

Cleburne scored three runs on eight hits through the first two games of the series, but scored three runs on eight hits on Wednesday night. K.C. Huth finished 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Mitch Glasser came around to score after both of his singles in the first and third innings.

Derrick Pyles had his first multi-hit game as a Railroader, and both Geraldo Valentin and Ermindo Escobar recorded their first hits of the series.

Casey Upperman threw a scoreless eighth with one walk and one strikeout, and Winston Abreu recorded his 13th save of the year with a perfect ninth inning.

Texas starter Billy Waltrip, making a spot start and only the fourth of his professional career, went six innings and gave up a pair of runs on seven hits with five strikeouts.

The Railroaders wrapped up a 16-game homestand and will now hit the road for a 10-game road trip -- the longest of 2017 -- beginning at Lincoln on Friday. First pitch is set for 6:45 and the Railroaders Pregame Show will begin 20 minutes prior.

Cleburne returns home Wednesday, July 26th to open a four-game series with the Wichita Wingnuts. First pitch is 7:06 p.m., and tickets can be purchased at www.railroaderbaseball.com or by visiting the box office located near the main gate at The Depot.
