CLEBURNE, Texas -- Oscar Mesa doubled and scored in the seventh inning, but the Railroaders managed just five hits in a 6-2 loss to the Texas AirHogs at The Depot on Monday night.

Mesa made just two plate appearances after subbing for newcomer Dayner Moreira, and his double was Cleburne’s only extra-base hit of the night. Moreira was replaced after committing two errors across six innings in his Railroaders debut.

AirHogs starter Michael Freeman gave up just two runs on three hits over seven innings, and retired 12 consecutive Railroaders before Mesa’s double. Kevin Hilton and Luis De La Cruz combined to throw two scoreless innings in relief, and the AirHogs won for the eighth time in 10 games.

Cleburne starter Alberto Rodriguez pitched into the sixth inning and allowed three runs -- one earned -- on six hits with six strikeouts, but Bryce Beeler gave up three runs over 1.2 innings, and the Railroaders lost for the second time in seven games against Texas this year.

Maikol Gonzalez went 1-for-3 with a single and a walk, and Mitch Glasser added a single in the ninth inning.

AirHogs catcher Ryan Wagner hit a two-run homer in the seventh inning, and outfielder Denis Phipps went 3-for-5 with three singles and an RBI.

Game 2 of the three-game set is scheduled for 7:06 p.m. Tuesday. Good seats are still available and can be purchased online at www.railroaderbaseball.com or by visiting the box office located near the main gate at The Depot.
