CLEBURNE, Texas -- Jorge Martinez struck out a season-high nine batters over 5.2 innings, but the Wichita Wingnuts swept the series with a 3-0 win over the Cleburne Railroaders at The Depot on Sunday night.

Martinez gave up just two runs on four hits with a walk to go along with the nine strikeouts, and Bryce Beeler surrendered only a solo homer over his 3.1 innings of relief.

But the Railroaders had just two hits -- an Oscar Mesa double and a Maikol Gonzalez bunt single -- and worked just two walks with 10 strikeouts in their seventh loss over the last eight games.

Wichita starter Ryan Kussmaul threw six scoreless innings with one walk and eight strikeouts, and three Wingnut relievers combined for three scoreless innings to complete the shutout.

Axel Johnson walked, but failed to extend his season-long hitting streak past eight games, and Mesa doubled and walked in his first start since June 27 (leg). Alex Polston -- making his second consecutive start since his activation from the DL -- struck out three times and committed errors in each of the first two innings.

Now 20-23 and 11 games back of the South Division-leading Wingnuts, the Railroaders welcome Salina back to The Depot for a three-game set beginning Monday.

First pitch is set for 7:06 p.m., and the Railroaders Pregame Show will begin at 6:45. Monday night is a special holiday fireworks night, and tickets can be purchased at www.railroaderbaseball.com or by visiting the box office located near the main gate at The Depot.
