CLEBURNE, Texas
The bullpen coughed the game up again for the Railroaders tonight as they fell to the Winnipeg Goldeyes by a score of 6-4 in a game that last nearly four hours.
With one out in the second inning Shawn Pleffner hit a solo shot to deep center field off of the starter Brandon Quintero. The third inning got no better as the Goldeyes got a pair of runs courtesy of two walks, an error, and one base hit.
The Railroaders would then turn around in the bottom of the third and get a leadoff double from Nick Van Stratten. His double would be followed by three consecutive basehits, from Valentine, Zarraga, and Tierney respectively. This would be enough to tie the game moving into the fourth.
The Railroaders took the lead for the first time in the fifth inning after an Ermindo Escobar single scored Brandon Tierney from second.
Taylor Thurber would surrender the lead back to the Goldeyes after Reggie Abercrombie took him deep to left field with two men on base, making the score 6-4.
The Railroaders look to have tied the game when Brandon Tierney hit a line shot down the left field line. Initially the home plate umpire called the ball fair, and a home run; after a coach’s appeal, and much discussion, the call was changed to a foul ball, and Tierney was sent back into the batter’s box. The Railroaders would not score in the inning.
The winning pitcher for the Goldeyes was Kenny Matthews, moving him to 1-0 out of the bullpen.
The loss goes Thurber, who gave up three runs on three hits in one-third of an inning of work.
