The Cleburne Railroaders have signed Brandon Tierney of Studio City, California, to play third base and infield for the 2017 season, which begins May 18.

Twenty-six-year-old Tierney has Texas roots. He was born and raised in Arlington, Texas, and attended Fort Worth Country Day School in Fort Worth, Texas.Tierney said he is excited to come back to Texas.

“Ever since college I’ve never been that close to home,” he said. “Being able to play in Cleburne definitely is exciting. Not only am I excited but my friends and family are excited because they can go to quite a few games.

While playing baseball for Iowa Western Community College, Tierney and his team won the Junior College World Series in 2017. Then he played ball for Texas A&M University Corpus Christi.

Professionally, he played most recently for the Joplin Blasters in Joplin, Missouri. Before that he played for the Frontier Greys and Kan- sas City T-Bones.

“I have coached Brandon Tierney since he played for me in 2015 in California,” Railroaders Field Manager Gabriel Suarez said. “I love his defense at third base and every year he keeps improving an already powerful bat. I have enjoyed watching his professional career from the beginning and expect him to continue to build on his success."

The players will arrive in Cleburne on May 1 and report for spring camp on May 6. Opening day is May 18, when the Railroaders will face the Winnipeg Goldeyes. The game begins at 6:05 p.m.

“Signing Brandon is an great addition to the Railroaders,” Railroaders President Robbie Fenyes said. “His professional playing experi- ence brings great in game quality and instills a winning attitude for the Railroaders day one, of our first year back. Brandon will be a great competitor and contributor on the field and in the community.”

The Railroaders are seeking host families for some of their players. Players need to have their own room and have access to a bathroom, laundry facility and refrigerator. Players often arrive home late at night after games, so a side entrance may be beneficial. The players will spend a considerable amount of time at the ballpark, making time spent at the home minimal.
