No player this season has been more reliable for the York Revolution than starter Frank Gailey. He entered the day tied for first in the Atlantic League in wins and fourth in ERA. On Sunday afternoon he improved in both departments, tossing eight innings of one run ball as the Revs (9-14) snapped their four-game losing skid, salvaging the finale against the Bridgeport Bluefish with a 3-1 victory at PeoplesBank Park.

 

The eight innings from Gailey were the most from a Revs pitcher this season, eclipsing Ty’Relle Harris’ mark of 6.1 innings. Gailey’s lone run allowed came in the third on a leadoff double by D’Arby Myers followed by two groundouts to bring him around to score. Myers was the only Bluefish batter allowed past second base on the day, as Gailey faced just 28 batters in eight innings, helped by three double plays behind him. He also struck out four to earn his fourth victory of the season.

 

“I just wanted to go out there and give a good effort, throw strikes and trust the defense,” said Gailey after the game.

 

The Revs tied the game in the fifth, starting the inning with back-to-back singles from Isaias Tejeda and Michael Burgess, allowing a deep sac fly to center field off the bat of Joel Guzman to knot the score at one.

 

Two innings later Guzman drove in his second run of the ballgame with an infield single on a roller toward short, bringing home Angel Franco who had reached on a fielder’s choice. Third baseman Tony Abreu airmailed first on the play, allowing Michael Burgess, who had singled to keep the inning alive, to advance first to third. Bryan Pounds then looped a single to right to bring home Burgess, and give Gailey an insurance run with which to work.

 

Brad Allen came on for the ninth and worked a three-up-three-down frame, earning his third save on the season in three chances. 

 

The Revs have a day off on Monday, before beginning a seven-game road trip, with the first three at Long Island before a four-game set with the Sugar Land Skeeters.
