REVS SWEPT IN DH

(Sept. 10, 2021 – Waldorf, Md.): The York Revolution suffered a doubleheader sweep to the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs, falling 13-2 and 7-1 in a pair of seven-inning games on Friday evening at Regency Furniture Stadium. The Revs slip to two games back in the North Division, as their three-game winning streak following a series sweep at Lancaster is snapped.

Each team used the long ball to open its scoring. Southern Maryland jumped ahead in the bottom of the second as David Harris and Zach Collier led off with singles, setting up Josh McAdams who launched a three-run homer to left-center for a 3-0 lead. Revs starter Jhoendri Herrera stranded a pair of walks in scoring position, striking out the side to finish a 39-pitch inning.

The Revs got one back in the third as James Harris drilled a solo homer to left-center, his eighth of the season, cutting the deficit to 3-1.

Unfortunately for York, it was all downhill from there as Southern Maryland plated another three runs in the third, all with two outs on RBI singles from Joe DeLuca and Cesar Trejo, and a double steal from DeLuca with McAdams swiping home on the play to build a 6-1 lead.

The Blue Crabs turned it into a rout with a seven-run fourth, using an RBI single to right from Jovan Rosa and an RBI double to right from Harris (3-for-3), a McAdams sac fly to center for his fourth RBI, a bloop RBI hit to left from DeLuca, and a three-run homer to left-center by Michael Baca to punctuate the explosion.

Lenin Rodriguez ripped an RBI double down the left field line for the Revs in the fifth, but Crabs starter Josh Roeder (1-0) allowed just two runs on five hits, going all seven innings with no walks and seven strike outs in a 105-pitch effort for his first career complete game.

Herrera (2-3) was charged with 13 runs, all earned, on 11 hits in four innings in the loss. The 13 earned runs are the most allowed in a game by a pitcher in Revs history, eclipsing the previous high of 11 allowed by Tony Pena in 2016.

The loss snapped the Revs’ three-game overall winning streak and six-game road winning streak which was the second longest in franchise history. It snapped Southern Maryland’s three-game skid and gave the Blue Crabs a seventh consecutive win over the Revs in Waldorf.

Southern Maryland struck first in the nightcap as Collier took a bases loaded walk for a 1-0 lead in the first before Revs starter Jake Welch retired McAdams on a double play to escape further damage.

The Blue Crabs added three more in the second to go up 4-0, as Jordan Howard belted a two-run homer to right and Harris was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

York got on the board in the third on a two-out bloop RBI double to left from Jack Kenley, but Crabs starter Kolton Mahoney (7-4) allowed nothing else on just three hits in six innings to earn the win. He struck out seven, rebounding from his previous start when he allowed eight runs in York last Sunday.

Southern Maryland added a two-run homer to right from Collier in the fourth, and McAdams slapped an RBI single into right to close the scoring in the sixth.

The Revs fell to 0-7 in doubleheader openers with the game one loss, but saw their three-game winning streak in nightcaps halted as they were swept for the first time in their last four tries.

The Revs and Crabs meet again on Saturday night at 6:35 p.m. with Duke von Schamann (5-7, 5.87) facing Blake Bivens (3-3, 5.81).
