(June 15, 2021 – York, Pa.):  Yan Sanchez homered and drove in four but a bid for milestone win #500 at PeoplesBank Park was put on hold as the York Revolution dropped their series opener to the Lancaster Barnstormers, 15-7 on Tuesday evening.  The loss snaps a brief two-game skid for the Revs who had won four of their previous five coming in.

 

Lancaster and York exchanged runs in the first inning. Caleb Gindl worked a leadoff walk, advanced to second on a ground out, and moved to third on a passed ball. Blake Gailen brought in his fellow outfielder with a ground ball to second for an unearned run to open the scoring.

 

York responded with a run of their own in the first off the bat of Melky Mesa. With Sanchez at first following an infield hit, Mesa tagged his league-leading eighth double to left field for the 1-1 tie. 

 

The second brought more runs for both sides. With two outs in the top of the frame, Blake Allemand smashed a solo home run to right field, his fourth of the year. Gindl brought in the second and final run of Lancaster’s second with a line drive single to center, scoring Anderson De La Rosa.

 

York got right to work in their second inning at the plate. Welington Dotel kicked things off with a double to center. Carlos Castro singled to left and Josh Vitters walked to load the bases. Darian Sandford plated Dotel from third with an infield hit. Sanchez delivered the big hit, a bases-clearing double to left, for a 5-3 lead after two innings. 

 

Lancaster would not be denied in the next four innings, however. Between the third and sixth innings, 10 unanswered Barnstormers runs came in. Kelly Dugan collected his 13th RBI on a line drive single to right in the third. The most damage came in the fourth with five runs on three hits. Gindl accounted for the bulk of the production with a three-run blast to right center. Gailen scored on a wild pitch and Alejandro De Aza brought in another on a sac fly to right. 

 

Trayvon Robinson reached on an outfield fielding error in the fifth with the bases loaded that allowed three unearned runs to cross home plate. In the sixth, Cleuluis Rondon brought in the sole run with a double for a 13-5 Lancaster lead. 

 

The Barnstormers struck twice in the ninth. Gailen hit his fourth double of the season, scoring Melvin Mercedes. De Aza following with a bloop single to right to score Gailen for a 15-5 lead.

 

Revs starter Jake Welch (1-1) suffered the loss allowing nine runs (six earned), on eight hits and five walks in 3.2 innings.

 

Dominic DiSabatino (1-2) earned the win, allowing five runs on 10 hits, three walks, and eight strike outs in five innings.

 

Notes: The Revs tied a season-high with 17 hits as four different batters (Sanchez, Mesa, Rodriguez, Castro) enjoyed three-hit performances.  Sanchez has hit safely in each of his first six games with York, batting .500 (12-for-24).  Mesa is now 8-for-16 on the homestand with five extra-base hits, and leads the league with 11 extra-base hits and nine doubles.  The 15 runs allowed mark a season-high, while it also accounts for Lancaster’s offensive season-best.
