(June 12, 2021 – York, Pa.):  Austin Nicely spun a gem, Melky Mesa cracked a tiebreaking home run, and the York Revolution defeated the Long Island Ducks, 3-1 at PeoplesBank Park as manager Mark Mason earned the 500th victory of his career at the helm of the Revs on Saturday night becoming the seventh in Atlantic League history to accomplish the feat.  The win evens the series as the Revs go for the series victory on Sunday at 2 p.m.

 

Long Island plated the first run of the game in the first. Steve Lombardozzi reached on a base hit to center and advanced to third on two passed balls. L.J. Mazzilli drove in Lombardozzi with an RBI sac fly to right for a 1-0 lead.

 

York tied the game, 1-1 in the fifth on a pair of hits. Carlos Castro and Yan Sanchez greeted Ducks starter Brendan Feldmann with back-to-back singles to put runners on first and second with no outs. After the two each advanced a base on a wild pitch, Jack Kenley, making his Revs debut, drove in Castro with a sac fly to right that turned into a double play as Sanchez was thrown out trying to reach third on a right field-first base-third base relay, but the run stood as the Revs drew even at 1-1.

 

In the sixth, the Revs took the lead with a two-run frame. Welington Dotel legged out an infield hit to kick things off. A batter later, Mesa launched his first home run of the season on a tape-measure blast to the back of the playground in left center field for the two-run lead, 3-1.

 

Nicely (1-1) impressed in his third start. The left hander earned the win in his first quality start and the Revs’ third in the last four games, allowing just an unearned run on three hits, four walks, and three strikeouts in a season-high 6.2 innings.

 

Reliever Alberto Rodriguez kept the seventh inning scoreless stranding a runner at second.

 

Lefty Brandon Fry followed suit with a scoreless eighth, stranding a pair.

 

Jim Fuller yielded an infield single to begin the ninth, but received a great grab from Kenley at second base on a flare toward shallow center for the first out, struck out Johnni Turbo for the second out, and induced a game-ending fielder’s choice grounder to short for his second save.

 

Feldmann (0-1) suffered the loss for Long Island despite also putting forth a quality start. In seven innings, the righty allowed three runs on seven hits, one walk, and struck out four. 

 

Austin Steinfort (0-2) gets the start for York in Sunday’s series finale, while Mike Bolsinger (0-3) makes his fourth start of the season for Long Island. Sunday is Crab Feast catered by Captain Bob's Crabs and every Sunday is a Sunday Family Fun Day presented by Weis Markets with pre-game catch on the field before the game (1-1:30pm), Bark in the Park, and kids run the bases post game.
