Bermudez Falls At UFC Houston

Bermudez KOed early in round one

(Houston, TX., February 6, 2017) – It was a big weekend in Houston as the UFC held their annual Super Bowl fight night card and the Patriots stunned the Falcons in Super Bowl 51.

While, the UFC Fight Night 104 card saw some wild finishes and big upsets, the card was headlined by Long Island’s own, Dennis Bermudez, facing Chan Sung Jung, also known as the “Korean Zombie”.

The Lindenhurst native, Bermudez (16-6) was fresh off a two-fight winning streaking facing Jung (14-4) who had not fought since 2013 due to a mandatory military service required by South Korean Citizens.

The fight started off well for Bermudez as he looked aggressive wading in with strikes. Jung tried to take him down and was hit hard by Bermudez, who looked to stun Jung with a punch as his legs wobbled.

Bermudez with the aggression early went in for the takedown but was stuffed. He then started to crack Jung with punches, that Jung seem to take easily.

Midway through the first round, as Bermudez was wading into the pocket looking for more punches, Jung landed a vicious uppercut and knocked out Bermudez at the 2:49 mark of round one.

It was a shocking result as Bermudez looked to be fearless and more of the aggressor, but Jung landed the punch that he had been waiting for, for over three years.

With the win, the “Korean Zombie” puts himself back into the higher rankings in the featherweight division, while Bermudez will most likely drop from his #9 ranking.

After the fight, Bermudez took to his Twitter account to write the following. “ Congrats to @KoreanZombieMMA…not my night, I’m sure we’ll meet again. We’re going to go back, look at the tape and make corrections where we messed up. Even though the fight didn’t go my way, I felt good in my attacks until I messed up. Made a mistake and TKZ capitalized. Thanks everyone for the support up until this point. We’re gonna get back in the gym on Monday. Next time we get back to this point, we’ll be on."
