Long Island Set To Take Over State Capital At UFC Albany

Villante and Brown are ready to go

(Long Island, NY., December 7, 2016) – In the second-ever UFC card in New York, Long Island will be well represented.

On Friday, at UFC Fight Night 102, held at the Times Union Center in Albany, Gian Villante and Randy Brown are both scheduled to fight in a light heavyweight bout and welterweight bout, respectively.

Villante will face off against Saparbek Safarov, who is a perfect 8-0 in his MMA career, with this last fight coming in April on the WFCA 17 card.

The Long Beach resident, Villante, who is 14-7 in his MMA career, was scheduled to take on Brazil’s Marcos Rogerio de Lima at Madison Square Garden on UFC 205, but a minor knee injury forced him to pull out.

After cleared by doctors, Villante was scheduled to fight Patrick Cummins (8-4), who was coming off a loss at UFC 198, but just last week, he withdrew from his fight against Villante due to a staph infection.

Villante last fought on March 5, 2016 losing to IIir Latifi via unanimous decision at UFC 196.

Brown, who trains out of Bellmore Kickboxing Academy, currently owns a professional MMA record of 8-1.

He will take on Brian Camozzi, who will also make his UFC debut. Camozzi is the brother of UFC veteran Chris Camozzi and is 7-2 in his MMA career.

A former Ring of Combat champion, Brown started his MMA career with seven consecutive wins.

Brown caught his big break on the ROC 53 card, when President of the UFC, Dana White, signed him to a UFC contract after watching him in person on his hit YouTube show, “Looking For A Fight”.  Brown had already captured the ROC (Ring of Combat) welterweight title with a win over Mike Winters at ROC 50 with a victory via TKO in round two in January, 2015.

After being signed by the UFC, Brown found success winning his first fight over Matt Dwyer via unanimous decision in January of 2016.

In his last fight, Brown, who was born in the country of Jamaica, defeated Erick Montano via submission (guillotine choke) at the 0:18 mark of round three.

The UFC has already found success in breaking multiple records for the first-ever UFC card back in November at UFC 205, held at Madison Square Garden. Now, the Empire State’s capital, Albany, gets the spotlight and Long Island will be front and center.

UFC Fight Night 102 will not be aired on television and will only be aired on UFC Fight Pass. Please follow us and lock into our Twitter handle, mmaLImagazine, to follow the entire card.
