Marcos Galvao Returns To Bellator

Veteran Galvao looks to start new streak

(Long Island, NY., December 1, 2016) – Former champion, Marcos Galvao, returns to Bellator to take on L.C. Davis at the Winstar World Casino and Resort, in Thackerville, Oklahoma on Bellator 166 on Friday.

Galvao, who fights out of Long Island MMA, is a veteran of the Bellator Organization. After losing to Joe Warren via unanimous decision in 2011, Galvao avenged his loss with a win over Warren four years later to win the bantamweight championship in May of 2015 via verbal submission in the second round.

Galvao, 34, is 17-7-1 in his MMA career. After winning four fights in a row, capped off by his bantamweight championship, the Brazilian suffered a loss in his last fight in June on Bellator 156 when he was defeated by Eduardo Dantas via unanimous decision.  Dantas, who will be headlining the Bellator 166 card, will take on Warren for the bantamweight championship.

Galvao’s opponent, Davis, is 23-7 in his MMA career. Davis, a Missouri native, had won three straight fights before losing to Warren on Bellator 143 in September, 2015. This will be his first fight in over 14 months.

The Long Island City resident, Galvao, started his MMA career in 2003 when he was awarded a black belt, and shortly after he started pursuing a career in mixed martial arts full-time.

After a strong start in organizations like Shooto and traveling to Japan where he secured wins that carried him to the WEC (considered at the time to be a solid organization in MMA), Galvao lost two fights in a row.

That was when his good friend Vitor Ribeiro invited him to come to New York and start training with him. After the move, Galvao was successful from the outset in the United States, amounting wins in the Washington Combat and in the Ring of Combat, where he won the featherweight championship.

Galvao now looks to his next opponent as he tries to reclaim what was once his, the bantamweight belt.
