UFC Announces UFC 209 For Brooklyn

MMA taking NY by storm

(Long Island, NY., November 10, 2016) – Just days before one of the biggest and most historic cards enter the Empire State for the first time for UFC 205, the UFC announced last night on Fox Sports 1’s “UFC Tonight” that the UFC will return to NY on February 11, 2017 at the Barclays Center, bringing UFC 209 to Brooklyn.

While no fights were announced as the card is months away, it will mark the third UFC event in NY since MMA was legalized by Gov. Andrew Cuomo back in early March. After UFC 205 on November 12 at Madison Square Garden, the UFC will make its way to the state’s capital of Albany for UFC Fight Night 102 on December 9.

Local Long Island fighters have been announced for the first two NY MMA cards such as Chris Weidman, Gian Villante and Aljamain Sterling, and fans should expect more of the same as MMA will hit Brooklyn for the first time early next year.

There are rumors as well that Nassau Coliseum wants in on the action, but they are currently closed for renovations until it re-opens in April of 2017. The former home of the New York Islanders is being operated by Forest City, with an estimated $260.5 million to renovate and build a neighboring sports and entertainment complex. The new complex would seat approximately 14,000 fans and most likely would be the home for the first ever UFC event on Long Island.

For now, MMA fans should be beyond excited with fights already lined up for MSG, Albany and the newly announced Barclays Center.
