Chris Weidman Is Back At UFC 205

Weidman officially on UFC 205 card

(Long Island, NY., September 27, 2016) – Chris Weidman is back. The UFC officially announced the former middleweight champion is scheduled to fight Yoel Romero on UFC 205’s historic fight card on November 12 held at Madison Square Garden.

Weidman (13-1), born and raised on Long Island, has been looking forward to getting back into the Octagon after suffering a neck injury. The two-time Division 1 All-American wrestler at Hofstra University started his professional mixed martial arts career at 13-0 before dropping his only bout to Luke Rockhold at UFC 194.

With impressive victories over Victor Belfort (UFC 187), Lyoto Machida (UFC 175) and two against Anderson Silva, (UFC 162 and UFC 168), Weidman will face another tough opponent in Romero as he looks to reclaim the belt he once wore.

Romero (11-1) will be coming off a six-month USADA suspension, which was shortened from two years to six months. The Miami resident hasn’t fought since UFC 194, the same card as Weidman and looks to continue his success after defeating Ronaldo Souza via split decision to earn his seventh consecutive victory, including five via knockout.

The winner of this middleweight fight is likely to get a title shot against the winner of Michael Bisping vs. Dan Henderson at UFC 204 in England.

It also has been announced that featherweight champion Conor McGregor will take on lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez for the lightweight title in the main event. McGregor will look to become the first fighter to hold two belts at the same time in UFC history.
