Bermudez Wins at UFC Fight Night 92

The "Menace" dominates for second straight win

(Salt Lake City, UT., August 8, 2016) – Lindenhurst native Dennis Bermudez continued his winning ways, defeating Rony Jason in the co-main event at UFC Fight Night 92 on Saturday night in Salt Lake City, Utah.

After using his advanced ground and wrestling skills for the better part of the first two rounds, “The Menace” survived a late scare as Jason nearly locked up a rear-naked-choke early in the third round, but Bermudez survived to win the fight via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-26).

It was the second consecutive victory for Bermudez (16-5), who with this win, should ascend up the featherweight rankings. The 29-year-old- kept Jason (14-6) on his back for most of the first 10 minutes after landing a vicious takedown early in round one, which led to a nasty elbow that sliced the Brazilian’s forehead.

After the round was completed, Bermudez kept Jason down for the majority of the second and third rounds, showing his impressive ground game and surviving the late scare by reversing position before Jason could lock in the RNC.

Bermudez, fighting out of Long Island MMA, was very clear after the fight, calling out New Jersey native and one of the biggest names in the featherweight division, Frankie Edgar, for a fight at UFC 205 held at Madison Square Garden on November 12. Standing in the center of the Octagon, “Frankie Edgar,” Bermudez yelled to the fans at the Vivant Smart Home Arena and millions watching around the world. “November (12), Madison Square Garden, let’s go!”

He didn’t stop there, as he continued to make his case for fighting one of the best in his division. “The reason why I’m here in the UFC is to be a champion,” Bermudez said. “It’s not to make money, it’s not to be famous, it’s to be the champion. A win over Frankie Edgar puts me right where I want to be for a title shot.”

It makes sense, as both Bermudez and Edgar (25-5-1) are New York and New Jersey natives, respectively, and with this win, Bermudez, who looked sharp and confident the entire fight, might have earned himself a chance to fight one of the best, the former lightweight champion, Edgar.
