Villante Wins On UFC 220 Card

Villante snaps skid

(Boston, MA., January 23, 2018) – On Saturday, Long Island’s Gian Villante ended a two-fight losing streak after defeating Francimar Barroso via split decision on the main card of UFC 220.

While it wasn’t the slugfest everyone thought it would be, Villante, (16-9 MMA) in this light heavyweight bout, did enough with pressuring Barroso (18-7 MMA, 4-3 UFC) to earn his first win in over a year.

Back in December of 2016, Villante defeated Saparbek Safarov via TKO in round two to earn his previous victory in the UFC. Since then he had lost his last two fights (Mauricio Rua and Patrick Cumminsbefore starting 2018 with a win against Barroso.

Villante also thinks he broke his hand and it happened with the first punch of the 205-pound bout, when it met the side of Barroso’s head.

“First one, I could tell right away it was probably done,” Villante said after the main-card bout, which aired on PPV at TD Garden in Boston. “But I’m a meathead, so I keep going.”

Despite the pain, Villante earned the decision and looks to begin a winning streak in the new calendar year.
