UFC Long Island Is Two Days Away

Just days away!

(Long Island, NY., July 20, 2017) - In just two days, the first-ever UFC event on Long Island will take place at the newly renovated Nassau Coliseum on July 22, 2017.

The card will be headlined by Long Island native, Chris Weidman, who will take on Kelvin Gastelum in a middleweight bout.

Weidman, who went to nearby Hofstra University, is coming off three-consecutive defeats, most recently losing to Gegard Mousasi via a controversial TKO at UFC 210 in Buffalo.

The former middleweight champion will have a tough test in facing Gastelum, who knocked out Victor Belfort in the first round of their fight in March at UFC Fight Night 106.

However, due to a failed drug test, the win was overturned to a no-contest.

Gastelum is currently on a three-fight unbeaten streak which includes defeating Belfort and wins over Tim Kennedy and Johny Hendricks.

He was scheduled to fight Anderson Silva, but due to the failed drug test, he was suspended for 90 days by the USADA.

In the co-main event, Dennis Bermudez takes on Darren Elkins in a featherweight bout.

In his last fight on February 4, 2017, Dennis “The Menace” lost via first round knock out against Chan Sung Jung (The Korean Zombie) at UFC Fight Night 104 in Houston.

Elkins (22-5) has won four-in-a-row, including a memorable comeback win over Mirsad Bektic at UFC 209.

Bermudez joins a long list of Long Islanders who will fight on the historic Long Island card.

Bermudez joins fellow Long Islander, Gian Villante, who will fight Patrick Cummings, and Chris Wade, who will fight Frankie Perez on the UFC on Fox 25 card.

Other Long Island fighters on the card feature Ryan LaFlare and Brian Kelleher.
