Long Island card adds another top fight
(Long Island, NY., May 18, 2017) – Long Island’s Dennis Bermudez will join the first-ever UFC event on Long Island as he takes on Darren Elkins at the newly renovated Nassau Coliseum on July 22, 2017, in a featherweight battle.
A veteran to the sport, Bermudez has been fighting in the featherweight division since 2009. Fighting out of Long Island MMA, the Lindenhurst resident holds a professional record of 16-6.
After stringing together seven consecutive victories, the 30-year-old ended a personal two-fight losing streak on February 21, 2016 against Tatsuya Kawajiri with a win via unanimous decision.
On August 6, 2016, Bermudez defeated Rony Jason via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-26) at UFC Fight Night 92 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
The Puerto Rican/American Bermudez began wrestling in 2000 and held a high school record of 112 wins and 23 losses. From high school he went on to wrestle at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania, where in 2007 he was ranked 22nd in the nation at the Division 1 level.
In his last fight on February 4, 2017, Dennis “The Menace” lost via first round knock out against Chan Sung Jung (The Korean Zombie) at UFC Fight Night 104 in Houston.
Elkins (22-5) has won four-in-a-row, including a memorable comeback win over Mirsad Bektic at UFC 209.
Bermudez joins a long list of Long Islanders who will fight on the historic Long Island card.
Bermudez joins fellow Long Islander, Gian Villante, who will fight Patrick Cummings, and Chris Wade, who will fight Frankie Perez on the UFC on Fox 25 card.
The card will be headlined by Long Island native, Chris Weidman, who will take on Kelvin Gastelum in a middleweight bout.
