Chris Weidman To Headline UFC Long Island

Former champ draws main event

(Long Island, NY., May 12, 2017) –  Long Island’s Chris Weidman will headline the first-ever UFC event on Long Island as he takes on Kelvin Gastelum at the newly renovated Nassau Coliseum on July 22, 2017.

Weidman (13-3, 9-3 UFC), who went to nearby Hofstra University, is coming off three-consecutive defeats, most recently losing to Gegard Mousasi via a controversial TKO at UFC 210 in Buffalo.

The former middleweight champion will have a tough test in facing Gastelum, who knocked out Victor Belfort in the first round of their fight in March at UFC Fight Night 106.

However, due to a failed drug test, the win was overturned to a no-contest.

Gastelum is currently on a three-fight unbeaten streak which includes defeating Beltort and wins over Tim Kennedy and Johny Hendricks.

He was scheduled to fight Anderson Silva, but due to the failed drug test, he was suspended for 90 days by the USADA.

Weidman joins fellow Long Islander, Gian Villante, who will fight Patrick Cummings, and Chris Wade, who will fight Frankie Perez on the UFC on Fox 25 card.
