Jayson Tingue isn't a stranger to elite-level competition.
The 2020 goalie from Bay Shore gets to face the country's top shooters in any event he goes to. That's one of the plusses of playing for Team 91 2020 Crush, which has earned the title of the nation's best 2020 team. Tingue still gets a good amount of work as he stares down the best snipers.
Saturday, though, he'll be put into a different environment at the Run With The Best Showcase at the Sachem Sports Complex. The showcase will feature 220 of the best uncommitted 2019s, 2020s, 2021s and 2022s in the country in front of a bevy of college coaches from the Division I, II and III levels. Tingue was receiving collegiate interest before the new recruiting rules went into effect last summer, and it's very likely that he'll be a hot commodity on Sept. 1 when colleges can contact him. A vocal leader with extremely quick hands who steps to the ball well, he's already been a three-year contributor and a two-year starter for Bay Shore. Expect him to be one of the top players in attendance at Run With The Best.
"It's a good opportunity to showcase my skills in front of college coaches, especially with the level of competition at this showcase," Tingue said. "I think individual events are good, especially since I'm not playing with the same guys that I'm used to playing with. You don't know who's in front of you and it's hard to quickly get them on the same page, but I think that helps enhance my game and at the end of the day, if you're able to get them on the same page, you know you've done well."
Playing on such a loaded team, one that already features 10 Division I commits, gives Tingue a glimpse as to what it'll take in order to play at the next level. He's confident that he'll get there, and he likes that he's been able to see the little things that those guys do to get better.
"I like their ability to work hard whenever it is. They're always working to get better, whether it's working extra before or after practice," Tingue said. "I'm hoping to be seen by coaches this weekend. Starting as a freshman definitely helped my game, too. Playing against better guys who are bigger, faster and stronger makes it easier for me when I play travel. I'm able to see the ball very well and I'm used to the speed of the game."
He'll look to put on a show on Saturday.
