On April 27, 2013, over 900 participants participated in one of three events to benefit a charity of their choice. Over 40 charities benefitted from this event. In all, $75,000 was raised for these charities. The MBA/MSA students raised over $21,000 for Cystic Fibrosis. The Professional students added another $4,000 for the Brain Injury Association of Ohio, in honor of Mrs. Kate Kahler.
A committee of first and second year students began meeting in September to plan this event. The committee was led by Mike Wendling (’13) and myself. We are very thankful for the hard work that the committee put in for the months and weeks leading up to the event. This event could not have been a success without the great members of this committee.
The details for each event are as follows.
• Athletes in Action Triathlon/Duathlon: A short sprint format that begins at the Ohio University Aquatic Center heading out of town on a challenging 10K bike course before returning to campus to complete the 5K course and finish at Tail Great Park.
• ROCKY Military Mud Run powered by OU ROTC: A non-traditional 4 mile run starting in the Walter Hall parking lot, then head up to the Army ROTC Challenge course at the Ridges before heading down to the slip-n-slide finish line at Tail Great Park.
• 33rd Annual OU HCOM Medicine Run (5K) presented by Diagnostic Hybrids: A traditional 5K run that will start in the Walter Hall parking lot and finish at Tail Great Park.
• Fitness Fest: Stick around after the race in Tail Great Park for the awards ceremony, awesome prizes, food and refreshments!
Mike and I are passing this event off into the capable hands of Carey Goodman (’14), Lindsae Lowrie (’14) and Caitlin Munchel (’14). We are excited to see where they take this event next year.
