MSA Class of 2013 student Mike Dirmann headed to Shreveport to support the Ohio football team in it's Independence Bowl matchup with Louisiana-Monroe. Here's his recap of that day in a "Day in the Life" style segment.
9:00 am – Spring out of bed with a hop in my step. The Bobbies are ready to whip some Warhawks!
9:45 am – Head over to Independence Bowl pre-game fanfest….lots of fans in Maroon….not too many in green…this is going to be like a road game!
10-11 am – walk up and down fan fest…I observe all the cuisine being sold…did you know fried alligator is quite tasty?
11 am – head over to Independence Stadium. I used to live and work in Shreveport for five years so I catch up with some of my former colleagues who are covering the game for a local television station. As the rain starts to fall, I think how lucky I am not to be out there on the sidelines having to film the game…
11: 45 am – head inside the stadium and meet up with Packy Moran (’07) and Anna Jensen (’14) who are in the midst of their whirlwind road trip covering half of the United States. These are arguably the two most dedicated Bobcat fans I know….
12:30 pm – run into Libby Ebelhar (’13) who is here working for the Bobcat club as part of her G.A. Such a dedicated worker! She comments on how different and good the food is in Louisiana….So true! It’s a common theme I hear from every Bobcat fan in attendance.
12:45 pm – Find my seat which was given to me by a former co-worker in Shreveport, great right in the middle of 1000+ ULM fans!
12:55 pm – The Bobcats take the field!
12:56 pm – I’m the only one cheering in my section…O…H….I….O
12: 57 pm – The mist begins to settle in on Independence Stadium…this is going to be a bad weather football game
1:03 pm - The Bobcats receive the kickoff
1:05 pm –The Bobcats score the first of many touchdowns on the day as they steamroll the Warhawks in their own backyard
2:00 pm – Use my former colleagues to sneak into the media room and cram down some Crawfish Etouffee ….maybe I was dumb to get out of television…
4:09 pm – The Cats finish off a great end to the season 45-14.
4:15 pm – Sprint to the car to beat traffic…only I can’t feel my toes from the cold…makes it tough to sprint…
5:00 pm – Hit my hotel room….hot shower…yes please! Ready for a night out to celebrate the Bobbies victory…Shreveport watch out!
