"A Day in the Life"

Abby Peterson ('13)

6:00AM: Wake up after the 5th alarm I had set on my phone goes off.  Roommate Maria Solomon (’13) is probably cursing my snooze button through the wall.
6:02AM: Start the coffee pot before jumping in the shower
6:20AM: Out of the shower.  Coffee Count: Cup #1
6:25AM: Proceed to get ready, catch up on e-mails, and gather everything for the day
7:30AM: Hop into my car and head up to CSC to accomplish a few GA tasks in the Center for Sports Administration before a visit to the Friends and Neighbors Community Food Choice Center later in the day.  Thankfully, the parking meter gods were on my side today and I score a prime parking spot.
8:00AM: Review the Green Fever t-shirt design, created by Britton Spark (’13) and make a few alumni directory updates
9:00AM: Stop by Court Street Coffee to refill on caffeine.  Coffee Count: Cup #2
9:15AM: Pick up Anna Jensen (’14) and Shauna Smith (’14) and head to the Friends & Neighbors Community Choice Food Center, where the Sports Ad students are volunteering today as part of their community service efforts.
9:45AM: Arrive on-site in Lottridge and meet up with Nate Engelhardt (’14), Lucas Topolie (’14), and Kate McGowan (’13).  The group is quickly put to work organizing and portioning food donations. Anna and I are sent to kitchen to help prepare the community lunch.
10:00AM: Learn that Friends & Neighbors feeds approximately 75+ people in need per week…and that the consistency of canned fruit can be changed by adding pudding mix. Noted.
10:30AM: Prepare salads, cut leftover turkey for the casserole, and prepare other sides with Tracey Hecht (’14)
12:00PM: Anna, Shauna and I leave the rest of the group at the Food Center and head back to campus for some afternoon appointments.
12:30PM: Call Todd Reeve, CEO of the Bonneville Environmental Foundation, to get some insight into my and John Bollinger’s (’13) Revenue Generation project.  His work with the NHL lines up perfectly with our proposal and I’m ecstatic to have the results of our latest brainstorming session validated.
1:15PM: Head back into the Center to catch up on GA work and e-mails
2:00PM: Meeting with classmate Mike Dirmann and our fine undergraduate partner, Brooke Ling, about our final presentation in our Social Media and Sales class.
2:30PM: Meeting in Copeland with classmates Mike Wendling, Clayton Zoellner, and Koo Yul Kim about our final project in our Strategy Capstone course.  Realize all that has to be done over the next two weeks and become immediately exhausted.
3:15PM: Head over to Bentley for CAPSIM class with Dr. Kirch and Dr. Fodor.
4:45PM: Make a pit stop at Brenen’s for another pick-me-up and some Baja Chicken Enchilada Soup. Coffee Count: Cup #3
5:15PM: Social Media and Sales class kicks off, and as per usual, my list of “things to look-up latet” grows exponentially.
8:00PM: Finally out of class and headed home for the day.  Make a pit-stop at Kroger for some groceries on the way home.
9:15PM: Pantry full, I sit down to read the assigned case for Jim Kahler’s Revenue Generation class tomorrow.
10:00PM: Reading finished, I start the final homework assignment for CAPSIM class.
12:30AM: Even after my intense analysis, I have to take out a $5 million emergency loan in the first round of the CAPSIM simulation.  That’s enough to make anyone give up for the night.
1:00AM: Shower, brush teeth and finally hop into bed.  Fall asleep to the rants of Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert.

Ethan Saporito ('14)
6:30 – After a couple of snoozes, I finally stop fighting my alarm clock and wake up to get ready for the day. Breakfast and coffee are a must. And while it’s not essential, there’s something about Good Morning America that just starts a day off right.
7:45 – Head to campus to get started for the day
8:00 – I arrive at campus an hour before my GA in the Writing Center starts. Great time to catch up on emails and the random musings from a great football weekend.
9:00 – A group of international students comes in to discuss their paper and presentation. While they need more help than some other students, it’s refreshing to be around a group of people who take advantage of the opportunities in place to help them be successful. Regardless of whether or not their aspirations are for the sport industry, it’s inspiring to see people doing whatever it takes to get where they want to be.
9:30 – I spend the next few hours assisting students with their papers and presentations, grading memos for professors, and reading up on assigned articles for class discussion.
12:00 – Once my time at my GA is completed, I head off to meet with some classmates to discuss potential sponsors for the Southern Ohio Copperheads, the summer wood bat baseball team for which I’m currently serving as the Assistant GM.
12:30 – After talking potential sponsors, I meet with John Bollinger, my counterpart in the 2013 class with the Copperheads, to discuss the revamping of our sponsorship tiers. One of the best parts of my role is getting to have such a large role in a sport organization.
12:45 – After spending some time thinking big and envisioning what could result from the new structure, we get busy ironing out the details.
2:15 – Satisfied with our progress, John and I decide to call it a day. I unpack my lunch and see that Johnny Manziel has won the SEC’s Offensive Player of the Year award. Just another notable achievement for one of my beloved Aggies.
2:45 – Head to the graduate student lounge to work on my Data Analysis homework with some of my classmates. It’s a good thing they’re here – Excel gets tricky.
4:00 – Pack my things and head to my Marketing class. Today we’re talking with a woman from St. Jude’s children’s hospital about a potential partnership between the hospital and a major sports league. She gives us a great peek behind the curtain, and offers us a glimpse of what goes into this sort of deal.
6:00 – With class over for the day, we head to a local restaurant to celebrate a classmate’s birthday. Maybe it’s just me, but Andrew Kinn sure looks older today!
8:00 – Home for the day, I spend some quality time with my wife, catching up with her on her day and unwinding from a busy slate.
9:30 – I pull my assigned articles back out to go over one last time before bed. Can’t be caught unprepared in Dr. Pfahl’s class!
10:00 – Yawning, I realize it’s my bedtime. Have to get my beauty rest to ensure that I’m living the dream every day!

Maria Solomon ('13)
7:30am: Alarm goes off. Hit snooze.
7:40am: Alarm goes off again. Debate between snooze and making coffee. Begrudgingly get up.
7:50am: Make coffee to help jump start the morning.
7:51am: Jump in the shower and get ready for the day
8:45am: Leave the apartment and head to The Citizens Bank for a meeting about Basketball and Ohio University Athletics.
9:45am: Wrap up IMG meeting and wait for John Bollinger, II (’13) to arrive so that we can discuss our social media project with Citizens.
11:00am: Conclude meeting and drive back to Summit to drop off my car and head back to campus
11:30am: Catch the bus to head to Copeland
12:00pm: Work on blog post for social media class
1:00pm: Strategy class until 3:00pm!
3:05pm: Check the clock and have enough time to get a quick mid-afternoon coffee from Court Street Coffee before CAPSIM with Dr. Kirch.
3:30pm: Head to CAPSIM class to discuss how our respective sensor teams did in our latest simulation
4:30pm: One more class to go. Head over to the Center for Sports Ad to touch base with Dr. Lawrence about the rest of the week.
5:15pm: Social Media class. Nate Riggs, our instructor is discussing curating content and the best ways to engage an audience.
8:00pm: Class is over for the day! Head home.
8:30pm: Change into work out clothes and hit up the cardio machine for a quick 30 minutes.
9:10pm: Eat a late dinner and begin reviewing my to do list for the following day.
9:30pm: Start working on homework
10:30pm: Get distracted and work on some PR committee items
11:30pm: Finished half my to do list … there’s always tomorrow! Head to bed.
