A Day-In-The-Life...

Many professionals in the sports industry will tell you that one of the reasons they love their job is because no day is exactly the same. Whether you are part of the Ohio University sports administration family or just curious about the MBA/MSA program, you can join the Center for Sports Administration and follow the not-so-typical days of our graduate students. This edition features MBA/MSA students Aswon Sayles ('11), Jose Duverge ('11), and Mark Gildersleeve ('12).

10:00 AM Head over to my Spanish reading and writing class so I can work on the lingo for the Spanish mami’s.
11:00 AM Hit the streets to get some lunch.
1
2:00 PM Go into my second job at the OMSAR office an hour early so I can rack up on that next student worker check……’oh yeah! Do you smell that? Mulah baby.

1:00 PM Meet with undergraduate students individually until 5pm to explain what it is they need to do to be like me….A Winner!!

5:30 PM Class meeting

5:35 PM I know that someone is speaking, but I have to figure out how I’m going to take over the world.

5:40 PM I have nothing on this world takeover stuff. I’ll hold the thoughts until our next class meeting.

6:15 PM Dinner
7:15 PM Intramurals softball game was cancelled….#disappointed.

7:30 PM Hit the weights.

9:00 PM Still crushing the weights.

9:30 PM Just finished crushing the weights.
10:00 PM Drink a protein shake and put away the superhero suit of the day.
11:00 PM Hit the shower. Then hit the sack.

Mark Gildersleeve ('12)

7:00 AM Hop up out the bed…shower, get ready, decide which cardigan to wear today.

7:50 AM Claim MBA/MSA’s rightful territory in the back of the Summit bus.

7:51 AM See cute bus girl, realize I forgot to turn my swag on when I woke up, borrow some of Ankit  Behl’s (’12).
8:00 AM Dollar Coffee at Perk’s with Ankit Behl (’12) and Pat Villafane (’12). Pat pronounces the word “Caramel” 3 different ways while placing his 3 minute order, then explains to Ankit and I that he gets nervous ordering coffee.

8:10 AM Entrepreneurial Finance with Dr. Stowe, most creative quizzes ever.

10:00 PM Meet with Supply Chain group in an attempt to narrow down our topic paper, decide on Athletic Apparel.

11:00 AM Killer Tomato for lunch with Hallie English (’12) and Ethan Olson (’12), recap our MSA trip to Charlotte.

11:50 AM Meet up with the crew at Chipotle, discuss and poorly impersonate our favorite YouTube sensations. Seth Breitenstein (’12) tries explaining to me that he is a professional corn hole player, I tell him to go back to Boone.

12:10M Strategy class with Dr. Iyer, receive backhanded compliment for being a good GA but not being up to date on class readings. Realize I am the GA for a class I am in, nice!
2:00 PM Get second dollar coffee of the day, let my son Brett Brecheisen (’12) get ice cream, but only because he finished his entire crustless PB & J at lunch today.
2:10 PM Supply Chain with Dr. Rosado. We know, we know, MIT is better than Harvard.
4:00 PM Meet with CapSim group to discuss roles and strategy for the simulation. I appoint myself CEO, Jeremy Langton (’12) explains that Dr. Rosado is incorrect….Bentley is better than MIT and Harvard combined. As CEO, I reprimand Jeremy for being off task.

5:30 PM MSA Meeting, always good to see the smiling faces of the 2nd year students who no longer have MBA obligations. Great to see the network working as members of both classes continue to ring the bell, announcing jobs and internships.

7:00 PM Participate in  GVS Skype conference call with clients in Chicago and Washington D.C., improving the Appalachian region one day at a time.
8:00 PM Take Superpump, instantly gain energy, hit the Summit’s workout facility. Two fellow classmates are already in there getting swollen. Danny Duchene (’12) is practicing his referee signals in the mirror, imagining he has reached his career ambition of being the next big thing in women’s basketball officiating. J.T. Musso (’12) is reciting the BYU honor code while staring at his beach muscles in the mirror. Coincidentally, they’re looking in the same mirror.
10:00 PM Dinner: 2 Hot Pockets….turrible (Charles Barkley voice).

10:15 PM ESPN, Facebook, Twitter, networking e-mails, and researching IMG College and UNLV in excitement for my summer internship.

2:00 AM Set alarm clock, place sticky note on alarm clock reminding me to turn swag on in the morning (in case cute bus girl is back), and bed.
