After seeing what it takes to win in the WSHL and at the national tournament last season, El Paso head coach Cory Herman has brought in plenty of new talent to mix with last season’s returning stars. So far, so good for one of the best new franchises in junior hockey.
El Paso has a pair of one-goal wins against a tough Tulsa team to start its second campaign, winning 3-2 Friday night and 2-1 Saturday night, with one more to play at 6 p.m. MDT tomorrow night.
New El Paso defenseman Sean Molina
notched the game-winning goal at 7:28 of the third period after last year’s leading scorer, returning forward Marcus Wilhite
, opened the scoring at 17:18 of the second.
Starting goaltender Arthur Hollinger
saved an amazing 52 shots, as Tulsa blistered the El Paso goal, outshooting the visitors, 53-49.
Equally impressive from a team standpoint was the Rhinos’ penalty killing, as the Rampage was 0-for-11 Saturday night and is 0-for-18 for the weekend thus far.
