Boomers bury Bolts 7-2

SCHAUMBURG, IL- The Windy City ThunderBolts dropped their third straight decision Saturday evening, 7-2 against the Schaumburg Boomers Saturday at Wintrust Field. 

 

Despite two home runs in the game for Windy City (32-44), four sacrifice flies proved to be the difference.

 

A sacrifice fly for Blake Berry in the bottom of the first gave the Boomers (44-32) a 1-0 advantage. 

 

Kokko Figueiredo knocked a base hit to left field scoring one. A tremendous throw from Dan Robinson to home plate ended the inning with the Bolts trailing 2-0.

 

Micah Yonamine cranked his tenth home run of the season in the top of the second inning, putting the Bolts behind 2-1.

 

Schaumburg received a sacrifice fly from Alec Craig in the bottom of the second, getting the run right back for a 3-1 Schaumburg lead. 

 

A similar theme occurred in the top of the third inning. Troy Viola belted his fifth home run of the season off the scoreboard, cutting the deficit to one.

 

Another sacrifice fly by Berry in the bottom of the third inning put the Boomers in front 4-2. 

 

Berry hit his third sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth, accumulating a 5-2 lead. Zach Huffins smacked an RBI single, putting the Boomers ahead 6-2. Kyle Fitzgerald followed Huffins with an RBI single to finish the scoring. 

 

Bolts starting pitcher Logan Schmitt (4-4) tossed 4.2 innings, surrendering eight hits and seven earned runs while walking four and striking out two. 

 

Paul Coumoulos, Junior Martina, and Yonamine each had multi-hit contests in the loss. 

 

Windy City wraps up the suburb showdown with the Schaumburg Boomers Sunday afternoon at 1:05 CDT. Windy City all-star Garrett Christman (7-2, 2.58) gets the start against Schaumburg's Antonio Frias (1-1, 5.67). The broadcast can be found at wcthunderbolts.com.
