Slammers drop Bolts 15-5

JOLIET, IL - The Windy City ThunderBolts dropped the middle game of a three game set against the Joliet Slammers 15-5 Wednesday night at Duly Health and Care Field. 

 

An eight-run third inning gave the Slammers all the ammunition they needed in the ball game, batting around in the order. 

 

The Slammers (37-43) took a 1-0 lead off a solo home run by Tommy Stevenson in the bottom of the second inning. 

 

Joliet took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second from an RBI single by Zach Beirmann. Next at the plate, Matthew Warkentin smacked a three-run home run to center field, bringing to score to 5-0. Tyler Depreta-Johnson hit an infield single making it 6-0. Batting around, Liam McArthur hit a two-run single, concluding the eight-run third.

 

Windy City (33-46) shortstop Troy Viola blistered a two-out two RBI single in the top of the fifth.

 

Phil Steering knocked an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth, aiding the Slammers 11-2 advantage. 

 

Matt McGarry hit his fifth home run of the season in the bottom of the fifth, making it 12-2 Joliet. Every Slammers’ batter had at least a hit in the game. 

 

Paul Coumoulos hit his fourth home run of the season in the top of the eighth inning. 

 

Slammers pitcher Cole Cook (9-2) threw seven innings, surrendering four hits while allowing two runs and walking two while striking out six.

 

Taylor Sugg (4-7) lasted three innings, allowing nine earned runs on eight hits while walking three and striking out three. 

 

The Bolts look for a series win in Joliet Thursday evening at 6:35 CDT. Windy City's Logan Schmitt (4-4, 5.81) gets the start against Joliet's Ryan O’Rielly (1-4, 4.40). The broadcast can be foundat wcthunderbolts.com.
