Bolts swept by Boomers 7-1

SCHAUMBURG, IL- The Windy City ThunderBolts lost their fourth straight game, 7-1 against the Schaumburg Boomers Sunday afternoon at Wintrust Field.

 

A four-run third inning fueled a Schaumburg (45-32) sweep over Windy City (32-45). 

 

The Boomers struck first, after Kyle Fitzgerald hit a ground ball off Bolts pitcher Garrett Christman for a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second. 

 

Schaumburg added a run off an error by the Bolts in the bottom of the third. Following a sacrifice fly by Gaige Howard, Blake Berry crushed a two-run home run and made it a commanding 5-0 Boomers lead through three innings. 

 

The Bolts struck in the top of the sixth; a sacrifice fly by Paul Coumoulos put Windy City on the board trailing 5-1. 

 

Blake Grant-Parks responded with a two-run double off Bolts pitcher Mike DeSanti, accumulating a 7-1 advantage. 

 

Antonio Frias (2-1) tossed six innings enduring zero runs while allowing four hits and five walks and striking out six.

 

The ThunderBolts stole seven bases in the game. Three bags were stolen by Bren Spillane and two each from Dan Robinson and Jake Boone. The Bolts left 13 men on base in the game. 

 

Jake Boone had a multi-hit game. Other Bolts hits were from Robinson, Spillane, Matt Morgan, Paul Coumoulos, and Peyton Isaacson. 

 

Windy City starting pitcher Garrett Christman (7-3) tossed five innings, allowing five runs (three earned) on sIx hits, walking two and striking out two. Derrick Edington threw one scoreless inning in relief for the ThunderBolts.

 

The ThunderBolts are back in action Tuesday night at Duly Health and Care Field taking on the Joliet Slammers at 6:35 CT.  Windy City sends Javier Reynoso (3-1, 5.60) to the mound. The broadcast can be found at wcthunderbolts.com.
