Former Monarchs Compete For The Stanley Cup

MANCHESTER, NH – The Manchester Monarchs, the primary affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings, have 13 former players competing for the Stanley Cup as the puck drops in Game 1 between the Kings and New York Rangers at 8:00 p.m. EST on Wednesday, June 4, Monarchs President Darren Abbott announced today.

Manchester has forwards Dustin Brown, Kyle Clifford, Dwight King, Trevor Lewis, Jordan Nolan, Tanner Pearson, and Tyler Toffoli, defensemen Alec Martinez, Jake Muzzin, and Slava Voynov, and goaltenders Martin Jones and Jonathan Quick competing for the Kings in the series.  Forward Brian Boyle is the lone former Monarchs player to suit up for the Rangers in the Stanley Cup Final.

Brown recorded 29 goals and 45 assists for 74 points, and 96 penalty minutes in 79 games with the Monarchs during the 2004-05 season.

Clifford competed in seven games with the Monarchs during the 2010 Calder Cup Playoffs and collected his first two professional points, both assists, and 12 penalty minutes.

King spent parts of four seasons (2009-13) with the Monarchs where he registered 50 goals and 74 assists for 124 points, and 133 penalty minutes in 202 games.

Lewis scored 41 goals and 51 assists for 92 points, and 81 penalty minutes in 182 Monarchs games from 2006-10.

Nolan collected 45 points (16-29=45) and 255 penalty minutes in 136 games with Manchester from 2010-13.

Pearson recorded 33 points (17-16=33) and 18 penalty minutes in 41 games with the Monarchs this season.  In 105 American Hockey League games with Manchester, the forward has 80 points (36-44=80) and 32 penalty minutes from 2012-14.  Pearson appeared in just four playoff games with the Monarchs during the 2013 Calder Cup Playoffs and collected one assist.

Pearson collected seven points (3-4=7) and eight penalty minutes in 25 regular season games with the Kings this season.  In 19 playoff games this season, he has four goals and eight assists for 12 points, and eight penalty minutes.  Pearson made his National Hockey League debut during the Kings 2013 Stanley Cup Playoffs and registered his first point, an assist, in one game.

Toffoli appeared in 18 games with the Monarchs during the 2013-14 regular season, and collected 23 points (15-8=23) and four penalty minutes.  In 77 games with the Monarchs in 2010-11 and 2012-14, the forward scored 44 goals and 31 assists for 75 points, and 22 penalty minutes.  Toffoli appeared in only five AHL playoff games in 2011, and recorded one goal and six penalty minutes.  He was named the AHL Rookie of the Year for the 2012-13 season when he tallied 51 points (28-23=51), 18 penalty minutes, and a plus-20 rating in 58 games with the Monarchs.

Toffoli has 34 points (14-20=34), 12 penalty minutes, and a plus-24 rating in 72 regular season games with the Kings from 2012-14.  He collected 29 points (12-17=29), 10 penalty minutes, and a plus-21 rating in 62 games with Los Angeles this season.  In 21 playoff games with Los Angeles this season, Toffoli is ranked sixth on the Kings with 13 points (7-6=13), and is tied for fourth with seven goals.  Toffoli has 19 points (9-10=19), eight penalty minutes, and a plus-9 rating in 33 career NHL playoff games with the Kings (2013-present).

Martinez spent three seasons with the Monarchs, and recorded 69 points (20-49=69) and 82 penalty minutes in 147 games from 2008-11.

Muzzin tallied 12 goals and 49 assists for 61 points, and 103 penalty minutes in 146 games with the Monarchs from 2009-13.

Voynov appeared in 266 games over five seasons (2008-13) with Manchester.  The defenseman collected 42 goals and 81 assists for 123 points, and 151 penalty minutes with the Monarchs.

Jones has played in 158 games with the Monarchs from 2010-14.  The netminder has a record of 84-57-10, a goals-against-average of 2.42, and a .921 save percentage in Manchester.  Jones leads the Monarchs all-time records in games played (158), wins (84), losses (57), and saves (4,280); ranks second with 10 shootout losses; ranks third with 12 shutouts; tied for seventh place with Quick with a .921 save percentage; and ranks eighth with a 2.42 goals-against-average.

Jones made his NHL debut with the Kings this season, and collected a 12-6-0 record, a 1.81 goals-against-average, and a .934 save percentage in 19 games.  He has also stopped seven shots in 56 minutes over two games during the 2014 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Quick played in 33 games with the Monarchs from 2007-09, and collected a 17-13-2 record with a 2.48 goals-against-average, and a .921 save percentage.

Boyle appeared in 114 regular season games with the Monarchs from 2006-09, and recorded 41 goals and 42 assists for 83 points, and 162 penalty minutes.  In 16 AHL playoff games in 2007, Boyle collected eight points (3-5=8) and 13 penalty minutes with Manchester.

The best-of-seven Stanly Cup Final begins with Game 1 at STAPLES Center in Los Angeles on Wednesday, June 4.  The puck will drop at 8:00 p.m. EST.
