WEEKLY PREVIEW

The Monarchs went 2-0-1-0 in last week’s three-game matchup against the Norfolk Admirals as they made the southern trek to Virginia.

Wednesday night, the boys absolutely crushed the Admirals and went on a scoring rampage, ending the game with a score of 7-1. Six different Monarchs scored throughout the game, including two goals from Jordan LaVallee-Smotherman, making it his second time scoring two goals in a game this season.  The other scorers included Zac Lynch, Matt Marcinew, Kevin Morris, Sam Kurker and Cory Ward.

The boys came out victorious again Friday evening with a final score of 4-1. Rookie goalie, Evan Cowley, earned his first win with the Monarchs as he stood tall in goal. The Monarchs outshot the Admirals 50-27 in this bout, putting 26 shots on goal in the third period alone. Matt Marcinew was the first star of the game after scoring four points on two goals and two assists.

Unfortunately, Manchester could not pull off the sweep, and lost the final game of the three-game road series, 4-3. This hard-fought battle went into overtime, where the Admirals put the puck past Charles Williams to end the game, and save themselves from being swept.

The good news? The Monarchs still came away with five points last weekend.

Looking forward, the team is ready to play another weekend full of games, both home and away. Their record heading into Friday night stands at 5-3-1-1, as they will take on the Jacksonville IceMen at SNHU Arena (7 p.m.). The Monarchs will travel to Massachusetts to play the Worcester Railers on Saturday (7:05 p.m.) and both teams will head back to Manchester for Sunday’s matinee (3 p.m.).

A FIRST TIME FOR EVERYTHING

The Monarchs are preparing to host the Jacksonville IceMen for the first time in franchise history this Friday, November 10. The IceMen have gone through a number of transitions to become the Floridian team that they are today.

The team was known as the Muskegon Fury from 1992-2008, the Muskegon Lumberjacks from 2008 to 2010 and the Evansville IceMen from 2010-2016. In January 2017, IceMen owner, Ron Geary, sold a chunk of the franchise to an ownership group based out of Jacksonville, Florida, and the rest is history. The team is affiliated the Winnipeg Jets (NHL) and the Manitoba Moose (AHL).

Jacksonville’s record is currently 1-4-1, after they earned their first win in franchise history Wednesday during education day up in Brampton.

ROCKIN’ ROOKIES

After 10 games, the young guns are standing their ground and proving they are worthy of a spot on the team.

Rookie forward, Sam Kurker, has played in nine games and has put up an impressive eight points on three goals and five assists. Kurker is a Boston boy, straight out of college at Northeastern University. He comes to the team after playing his first professional game for the Albany Devils (AHL) last season, after spending his senior year at Northeastern.

Matt Marcinew is another rookie forward making a name for himself early in Manchester. Marcinew has played in seven games for the Monarchs, and has totaled six points on four goals and two assists. In the second game of last week’s three-game series against Norfolk, Marcinew was crowned the first star of the game after scoring two goals and two assists. Marcinew is welcomed to the Monarchs after spending his college hockey career at the University of Denver. The winger played a game in the AHL for the Ontario Reign this season, prior to being assigned to the Monarchs.

Keep an eye out for these new guys, as they are sure to put on a show all season long.

THE GARDEN LEGEND

Although he has never played a minute on ice at the Boston Garden, Rene Rancourt may be one of the most recognizable faces in New England. The long-time anthem singer will grace SNHU Arena with his presence Sunday, Nov. 12 (3 p.m.), and will sing the Canadian and American National Anthems prior to the game against the Worcester Railers.
