INSIDE THE SERIES

Bad blood entered the North Division Finals in Game 3 when the Monarchs and Beast combined for 69 penalty minutes, including 42 minutes handed out in a line brawl at 13:53 of the third period. Over the course of the first two games of the series, only 24 combined penalty minutes were handed out to both teams.

SHOOTING GALLERY

The Monarchs have had no problem putting shots on net so far in the North Division Finals against the Beast, having sent 111 shots on frame in the first three games of the series, an average of 37 shots per game. What’s not surprising about the Manchester shot total is that in the six combined games between the Monarchs and Beast including the regular season, the Monarchs averaged 37.17 shots per game. On the season, the Monarchs averaged 32.49 shots on goal per game.

SHUTTING THE DOOR

Sam Brittain recorded the first Monarchs shutout of the 2016-17 season last night in game 81 of the season. With his shutout, Brittain lowered his goals against average to 2.00 in the playoffs. During the regular season, the Monarchs were the only team in the ECHL to not blank a team in a single game over the course of 72 games.

MOVING ON UP

Monarchs alternate captain, Matt Leitner, has posted 11 points (4g, 7a) in nine games during the 2017 Kelly Cup Playoffs and is riding a four-game point streak heading into tonight’s game. During his point streak, Leitner has scored six points on two goals and four assists while adding nine shots and a +6 rating. Due to his most recent hot streak, the second-year pro has vaulted to second in the ECHL playoffs with a +8 rating and currently sits in a tie for fourth in playoff points.
