MINNESOTA SWAPS REILLY FOR STRACHANWild Plays at 7 PM in Milwaukee on Jan. 9 DES MOINES, IA – Minnesota Wild General Manager Chuck Fletcher announced on Friday the National Hockey League (NHL) club has recalled defenseman Mike Reilly from the Iowa Wild of the American Hockey League (AHL). Fletcher also announced that defenseman Tyson Strachan has been assigned to Iowa, Minnesota’s AHL affiliate. FOR MORE INFORMATION ON WINTER HAT TRICKS CLICK HERE Reilly, 22 (7/13/93), has collected 18 points (5-13=18) including three power-play goals in 32 games with Iowa this season. He ranks tied for first on the team in power-play goals, second in scoring and assists, fourth in shots on goal (65) and his point total ranks fourth amongst AHL rookie defensemen. The 6-foot-2, 191-pound blueliner collected 42 points (6-36=42) in 39 games during his junior season at the University of Minnesota in 2014-15. He was named a Hobey Baker Memorial Award Finalist and led NCAA defensemen in scoring and assists. Reilly also led the NCAA with 19 power-play assists and ranked tied for third in the nation with 21 power-play points (2-19=21) and tied for eighth with a plus-25 rating. He helped the United States win a bronze medal at the 2015 World Championship recording one assist in 10 games. Reilly was signed by the Wild as a free agent on July 1, 2015 and has yet to make his NHL debut. He will wear sweater No. 4 with Minnesota. Strachan, 31 (10/30/84), appeared in two games with Minnesota after being recalled from Iowa on Jan. 1, including his debut with Minnesota on Jan. 5 in Columbus and last night’s games vs. Philadelphia, where he earned a plus-1 rating. The 6-foot-3, 210-pound native of Melfort, Sask., has tallied two assists and 34 PIM in 31 games with Iowa this season. He owns 20 points (1-19=20) and 199 PIM in 186 career NHL contests in parts of eight seasons (2008-16) with St. Louis, Florida, Washington, Buffalo and Minnesota. Strachan played four seasons at Ohio State University (2003-07) and was selected by the Carolina Hurricanes in the fifth round (137th overall) of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft before signing as a free agent with the Wild on July 2, 2015. The Wild heads to Milwaukee on Jan. 9 before returning home on Sunday, Jan. 10 for a 5 p.m. game against the Rockford IceHogs.
