WILD CLOSES OUT THE SEASON WITH A 4-2 DEFEAT IN OKCWILD CLOSES OUT THE SEASON WITH A 4-2 DEFEAT IN OKC Iowa’s Second Season Comes to an End OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – The Iowa Wild (23-49-2-2, 50 points) were defeated by the Oklahoma City Barons (41-27-5-3, 90 points) 4-2 on Saturday night at the Cox Convention Center. The Barons built a 2-0 lead through two periods of play and held on for the two-goal win. Barons goaltender Laurent Brossoit (25-22-4) made 27 saves for his third straight win against the Wild. Veteran forwards Jason Williams and Ryan Hamilton led the offensive charge for OKC. Williams set up three goals and Hamilton added two points (1g,1a). Defenseman Jon Blum and forward Brett Bulmer each scored for Iowa in the defeat. Wild goalie Johan Gustafsson (8-22-1) took the loss with 29 saves. The Barons move on to Calder Cup Playoffs, while Iowa’s season ends without a playoff appearance. Oklahoma City opened the scoring at 7:09 of the first period with a tally by forward C.J. Stretch. Barons forward Jason Williams worked the puck cross-ice to the right point for Nathan Pageau. The Oklahoma City defenseman found Stretch in the high slot. Stretch turned and fired a backhand shot through traffic and past Gustafsson for his tenth goal of the year and a 1-0 lead after one period of play. The Barons doubled the lead at 7:47 of the middle period with a goal by Dillon Simpson. Connor and Kellen Jones led an offensive rush into the Iowa zone, fanning out and opening up the high slot. Simpson slipped into the high slot uncovered, received a pass and snapped his third goal of the year past Gustafsson for the 2-0 lead. Iowa closed the gap in the third period at 6:49 with Brett Bulmer’s fourth goal of the season for the 2-1 Wild deficit. Defenseman Zach Palmquist snapped a point shot to the Barons net and Bulmer swatted the puck out of mid-air, beating goalie Laurent Brossoit. Defenseman Steve McCarthy added an assist on the goal, ending Brossoit’s shutout streak against Iowa at 126:37. Oklahoma City moved back in front by two goals when Ryan Hamilton scored his 18th goal of the year. Stretch and Jason Williams each added an assist as the Barons increased their lead to 3-1. The Barons added to the lead at 15:03 with a power-play goal by Matt Ford. Williams and Curtis Hamilton each had an assist on Ford’s 19th goal of the year as Oklahoma City made it 4-1. Wild defenseman Jon Blum trimmed the deficit to 4-2 with his 12th goal of the year, coming off the power play at 16:42 of the final period. Center Brett Sutter and Palmquist each had an assist on the season’s final goal. The 2015-16 regular season schedule will be announced over the summer.
