WOLVES SKATE PAST WILD 5-1WOLVES SKATE PAST WILD 5-1 Iowa Heads Into Holiday Break Des Moines, IA – The Iowa Wild (9-18-1-1, 20 points) were defeated by the Chicago Wolves (15-11-3-0, 33 points) 5-1 in front of 4,912 fans on Sunday at Wells Fargo Arena. Forward John McCarthy scored twice and tallied one assist in the road win. Forwards Rob Bordson, Shane Harper and Colin Fraser also scored for the Wolves. Chicago goalie Jordan Binnington (8-4-1) made 25 saves on 26 shots in the victory. Rookie forward Zack Mitchell scored the Wild’s lone goal. Iowa goalie Johan Gustafsson (5-11-1) stopped 22 of 26 shots in the defeat. Iowa returns to action after the holiday break, starting Friday, Dec. 26 in Rockford at 7 p.m. The Wolves opened the scoring 50 seconds into the first period with a goal from forward Rob Bordson. Bordson fired a shot that bounced off an Iowa defender into the net, giving Chicago a 1-0 lead. Forward John McCarthy set up the play for Bordson’s sixth goal of the year. Rookie forward Zack Mitchell tied the game at the 3:14 mark of the period when he tipped the puck past Chicago goalie Jordan Binnington. Mitchell’s seventh goal of the season was assisted by defensemen Jon Blum and Benjamin Dieude-Fauvel, tying the game 1-1. The Wolves recaptured the lead 11:11 into the second period after forward Shane Harper scored on a power play. Harper redirected a shot from forward Ty Rattie for the 2-1 Chicago lead. Rattie and forward Pat Cannone aided Harper on his ninth goal of the season. The goal ended a string of 19 straight penalty kills for the Wild, dating back to Nov. 30 at San Antonio. Chicago extended its lead to 3-1 with a goal from forward John McCarthy 58 seconds into the third period. McCarthy’s second goal of the year was set up by forward Benn Ferriero. McCarthy scored his second goal of the game 13:18 into the third period. His third goal was assisted by Bordson for the 4-1 score. The Wolves tallied an empty-net goal at 19:32 off the stick of Colin Fraser. His sixth goal of the year was set up by Peterri Lindbohm for the 5-1 final. The Wild will be off over the holidays until Friday, Dec. 26th at 7 p.m. in Rockford. The team will also play in Grand Rapids on Saturday, Dec. 27 at 6 p.m. CT in a meeting with the Griffins. Iowa returns home on Monday, Dec. 29th at 7 p.m. to host Milwaukee. The team is partnering with LifeServe Blood Center for a blood drive, which runs from 12:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. on Dec. 29. For donating, all fans will be rewarded with one ticket to a future Iowa Wild hockey game and an Iowa Wild hat. The first 50 fans that make a donation will be given an Iowa Wild hat, autographed by one of the players. For the game, fans may purchase the Subway Combo Pack, which starts at $12 per person and includes a ticket, hot dog, soda and a subway coupon. The Iowa Wild 2014-15 season is presented by Mercy Medical Center, it runs from October through April. Fans may purchase seats to see any of the team’s 38 regular season home games at Wells Fargo Arena. Season tickets to see the Wild play at Wells Fargo Arena start at just $9 per game.
