CHICAGO DEFEATS IOWA 5-1CHICAGO DEFEATS IOWA 5-1 Wild Hits Road, Returns For ALS Weekend On Nov. 14 and 15 Des Moines, IA – The Iowa Wild (2-10-0-0, 4 points) were defeated by the Chicago Wolves (8-2-2-0, 18 points) 5-1 in front of 3,711 fans at Wells Fargo Arena on Sunday afternoon. The Wolves scored twice in the first and second periods, and added another insurance tally in the third for a four-goal road victory. Forwards Rob Bordson, Shane Harper, Terry Broadhurst and Cody Beach and defenseman Chris Butler each netted a goal for Chicago in the win. Iowa forward Zack Mitchell scored his second goal in two games to avoid the shutout loss. Chicago goalie Jordan Binnington (2-1-1) made 28 saves on 29 shots to preserve the win. Iowa goalie Johan Gustafsson (2-6-0) stopped 26 of 31 shots in the defeat. Iowa plays next at 7 p.m. in Milwaukee on Wednesday night. The Wolves opened the scoring in the first period with a goal by defenseman Chris Butler at the 5:57 mark. Butler fired an unassisted wrist shot past Iowa goalie Johan Gustafsson to give Chicago a 1-0 lead and to tally his first goal of the season. Forward Rob Bordson gave the Wolves a 2-0 advantage when he scored a power-play goal 9:23 into the period. Rookie forward Jake Chelios and defenseman Brent Regner aided Bordson on the play. Chicago extended its lead to 3-0 midway through the second period when forward Shane Harper found the back of the net with a wrist shot at the 10:07 mark. Harper’s fifth goal of the season was set up by forward Benn Ferriero. The Wolves made it 4-0 after forward Terry Broadhurst scored on the power play at 13:16. Bordson and Chelios each tallied an assist with Broadhurst’s third goal this year. The Wild broke up Wolves goalie Jordan Binnington’s shutout in the third period when forward Zack Mitchell scored at 17:37 on a power play, making it 4-1 Chicago. Mitchell’s goal was his second in two games and was assisted by forward Marc Hagel and defenseman Stu Bickel. Chicago responded with a goal by forward Cody Beach at the 19:58 mark of the period. Beach’s first goal of the season put the Wolves up 5-1 and was aided by Butler and forward Gergo Nagy. Iowa plays in Milwaukee on Wednesday prior to returning home for ALS Weekend on Nov. 14 and 15 at 7 p.m., welcoming the Oklahoma City Barons. Along with ALS Weekend, the Iowa Wild celebrates Veterans Weekend with specialty camouflage jerseys for both games, in appreciation of our veterans who have served the U.S. sponsored by ALS of Iowa. Friday is also a $2 Beer Night, sponsored by 100.3 The Bus. As part of $2 Beer Night, fans may purchase 10-ounce domestic beers through the first period of play. On Saturday night, the first 2,500 fans through the gates receive will be handed an Iowa Wild camo hat, sponsored by Iowa National Guard. After the game, the Wild will hold a live jersey auction, with the proceeds benefitting the ALS Association – Iowa Chapter. The Iowa Wild 2014-15 season is presented by Mercy Medical Center, it runs from October through April.
