WILD TAKES DOWN FIRST PLACE ADMIRALSBox Score - HEREWILD TAKES DOWN FIRST PLACE ADMIRALSIowa Hands Milwaukee First Loss of the SeasonDES MOINES, Iowa – The Iowa Wild (2-5-0-0, 4 points) defeated the Milwaukee Admirals (6-1-0-0, 12 points) 4-2 in front of 2,550 fans at the BMO Harris Bradley Center on Wednesday night. Marc Hagel and Zack Mitchell potted power-play goals less than three minutes apart in the second period, as Iowa handed Milwaukee its first defeat of the season. Goalie Johan Gustafsson (2-3-0) was sharp, posting a season high of 37 saves on 39 shots. Defenseman Danny Syvret and forward Michael Keranen also scored, as Iowa notched its second straight win. Forward Jordan Schroeder continued his torrid play, setting up two goals for his third multi-point game of the year. Milwaukee goalie Marek Mazanec (5-1-0) stopped 24 shots in his first loss of the season. Iowa continues a three-game road swing at Oklahoma City on Saturday at 7 p.m. Iowa opened the scoring just 2:52 into the game as Michael Keranen tipped a point shot by defenseman Jake Parenteau. Left wing Brett Bulmer added an assist on Keranen’s second goal of the year for the 1-0 lead. Parenteau recorded his first pro point on the play. Milwaukee found the back of the Iowa net at 8:08, tying the game 1-1 off Miikka Salomaki’s first tally of the year. Iowa’s Johan Gustafsson stopped attempts by Greg Noonan and Frederik Gaudreau, but was unable to control a third rebound. Salomaki swept in for the rebound and rifled it past Gustafsson to conclude scoring in the first period at 1-1. In the second period, the Wild connected for a pair of power-play goals to claim a 3-1 lead. Defenseman Jon Blum carried the puck from the right point, down the wing in the Milwaukee zone. Blum centered a pass for Hagel, who was set up in front of the Admirals net. Hagel tipped the puck past Mazanec for his first goal of the year at 13:27 and a 2-1 Iowa lead. Jordan Schroeder picked up his first assist of the night on the play. The Wild made it 3-1 at 16:04 with a power-play goal from Zack Mitchell. Schroeder worked the puck to the right of the Admirals net for Tyler Graovac, who slipped a back-door feed to Mitchell for the one-timer. The Admirals pulled within a goal at 9:01 of the third period, cutting the deficit to 3-2. Forward Austin Watson scored off a rebound, netting his fifth goal of the year. Defensemen Anthony Bitetto and Taylor Aronson each had an assist on the play. Iowa sealed the win at 19:38 with an unassisted empty-net goal by defenseman Danny Syvret for the 4-2 final. Iowa continues a three-game road trip with a stop in Oklahoma City before returning home for a three-game home stand. The Wild returns home on Thursday, Nov. 6 to host Rockford at 10:30 a.m. Thursday’s game with the IceHogs is also School Field Trip Day, where the first 5,000 youths (12 and under) receive an Iowa Wild drawstring backpack, compliments of NASH FM. Iowa rounds out its home stand against Chicago with a two-game series at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 8 and Sunday, Nov. 9. Saturday night is Ladies Night, where the first 2,500 fans receive an Iowa Wild ice scraper sponsored by Greater Iowa Credit Union. All ladies (21 and over) may purchase glasses of wine for $1.00. The Wild will also host Special Olympics Night on Saturday. Sunday is Pucks N’ Paws day, where the first 2,500 fans receive pet tags, compliments of Anderson Animal Hospital. It is also a Subway Family Four Pack game, where fans may purchase four tickets, four sodas and four hot dogs, starting at $48. The Iowa Wild 2014-15 season is presented by Mercy Medical Center, it runs from October through April. Fans may purchase seats to see any of the team’s 38 regular season home games at Wells Fargo Arena. Season tickets to see the Wild play at Wells Fargo Arena start at just $9 per game.
