STARS LATE SURGE SINKS WILD 4-2STARS LATE SURGE SINKS WILD 4-2 Iowa Continues Six-Game Homestand on Friday at 7:05 P.M. Des Moines, IA – The Iowa Wild (25-26-6-4, 60 points) was defeated by the Texas Stars (39-17-3-5, 86 points) 4-2 in front of 3,871 fans at the Wells Fargo Arena on Wednesday evening. Forward Brett Ritchie snuck a rebound past Johan Gustafsson in the last three minutes of regulation, breaking a 2-2 tie and giving Texas the lead for good. Gustafsson (11-14-2) stopped 32 of 36 in the defeat, which ended the team’s three-game winning streak. Texas goalie Jack Campbell (9-1-0) stopped 12 of 14 for the victory, as Texas claimed its fifth straight road win. Iowa forwards Tyler Graovac and Brad Winchester each scored in the loss, as Iowa fell to 11-16-3-1 at home this year. The Wild continues a six-game homestand on Friday, Mar. 21 at 7:05 P.M. against the Grand Rapids Griffins. The Stars opened the scoring with an even strength tally at 2:14 of the first period. Forwards Dustin Jeffrey and Scott Glennie worked the puck to Brandon Randford, who carried into the Iowa zone. Ranford snapped his 10th goal of the year past Johan Gustafsson for the 1-0 lead. Texas expanded its lead to 2-0 just 1:17 into the second period. Defenseman Jamie Oleksiak snapped a pass to Jeffrey in Iowa’s left-wing corner. Jeffrey snapped a back-door pass to Ranford, who netted his second tally of the night. Iowa used its power play to trim the deficit to 2-1. Forward Brett Bulmer was camped out behind the Texas net. Bulmer snapped a pass to Brad Winchester in the slot. Winchester rifled a wrist shot past goalie Jack Campbell for his team-leading 18th goal of the season. Center Zack Phillips added an assist on Iowa’s first goal of the night. The two teams stayed tied until the last three minutes of the game. Forward Brett Ritchie put Texas in front for good at 17:35, potting a rebound for the 3-2 lead. Forwards Justin Dowling and Travis Morin each had an assist on Ritchie’s 16th goal of the year. The Stars sealed the win at 19:00 of the third period, as forward Kevin Henderson snapped in a shot from the slot. Defenseman Cameron Gaunce and Morin each had a hand in Henderson’s 10th goal of the year for the 4-2 final. The team continues a six-game homestand on Friday, Mar. 21 at 7:05 p.m. against the Grand Rapids Griffins. Iowa also welcomes Grand Rapids (3/21 and 3/22) and Charlotte (3/25 and 3/26) over the six-game stretch. This upcoming weekend, the Wild celebrates Go Green Weekend, presented by MidAmerican Energy. The Iowa Wild encourages fans to bring an eco-friendly cleaning product to donate at the door for Habitat for Humanity. Fans that make a donation will be rewarded with a free ticket to a future home game and a MidAmerican eco-friendly bag. Friday is also a $2 Beer Night, presented by 100.3 The Bus: Fans may purchase $2 10-ounce beers through the first period. Also on Friday, the American Red Cross Night is selling mystery pucks (signed by a mystery Iowa Wild player) at tables on the north and south concourse of Wells Fargo Arena. A select number of pucks will include bigger prizes and the proceeds will benefit the American Red Cross of Greater Iowa. On Saturday, the team celebrates Faith and Family Day with a 1:05 p.m. faceoff against the Griffins. The Wild welcomes local faith groups for Faith and Family Day. All fans who have a ticket to the game are invited to stay for a special live acoustic set performance by Matt Baird following the game at Hy-Vee Hall C.
