GRIFFINS BLANK WILD 4-0GRIFFINS BLANK WILD 4-0 Wild Continues Five-Game Road Trip in Grand Rapids on Saturday at 6 p.m. Grand Rapids, MI – The Iowa Wild (22-25-6-4, 54 points) was defeated by the Grand Rapids Griffins (37-17-2-3, 79 points) 4-0 in front of 7,705 fans at Van Andel Arena on Friday night. Forward Cory Emmerton scored two goals in the first period and goalie Petr Mrazek (18-5-1) made 16 saves for the shutout. Griffins forward Teemu Pulkkinen and defenseman Adam Almquist added third-period markers, extending the club’s winning streak to seven games. Iowa goalie John Curry (7-7-2) made 32 saves, as the Wild dropped its sixth straight decision. Iowa was shutout for the second straight game and is now scoreless in the last 124:25 of play. The Wild continues a five-game road trip in Grand Rapids on Saturday, Mar. 8 at 6 p.m. CT. Griffins center Cory Emmerton led Grand Rapids out of the gates to start the first period, scoring his 13th goal of the season at 10:42. Defenseman Adam Almquist set up the play with a snap pass to the neutral zone, springing Emmerton. The Griffins forward led a two-on-one rush into the Iowa zone and slipped a shot past goalie John Curry. Defenseman Nathan Paetsch added an assist for the 1-0 lead. The Griffins expanded their lead to 2-0 at 13:17 of the first period off Emmerton’s second goal of the night. Forward Nick Jensen led a rush through center and rifled a shot to the Iowa net. Curry could not control the rebound and Emmerton swatted the loose puck into the net for his 14th goal of the season. After a scoreless second period of play, Almquist made it a 3-0 game at 11:07 of the third period. Emmerton and forward Jordan Tootoo set up the point shot, Almquist’s third tally of the year. Forward Teemu Pulkkinen blast a shot from the right point in the Iowa zone at 19:25. His team-leading 25th goal of the season was assisted by Nathan Paetsch. The team remains on a five-game road trip with one more stop in Grand Rapids and another in Milwaukee prior to returning home on Sunday, Mar. 16 at 5:05 p.m. to host San Antonio. Sunday’s game marks the beginning of a six-game homestand. The team also welcomes Texas, Grand Rapids and Charlotte over the home stretch.
