NEARLY 8,000 SEES WILD TAME MONSTERS 6-1Box Score - HERE NEARLY 8,000 SEES WILD TAME MONSTERS 6-1 Iowa Hosts Lake Erie Again This Saturday at 12:35 p.m. Des Moines, IA – The Iowa Wild (16-16-3-2, 37 points) defeated the Lake Erie Monsters (17-17-0-3, 37 points) 6-1 in front of 7,704 fans at Wells Fargo Arena on Friday night. Iowa forwards Jake Dowell and Marc Hagel, as well as defenseman Brian Connelly, each scored a goal and added an assist, leading the Wild to victory. Iowa defender Jon Landry also had a two-point game (two assists), improving the Wild’s record to 8-12-1-1 at the Wells Fargo Arena. Iowa goalie Johan Gustafsson (7-7-1) stopped 25 shots, including 15 in the first period, helping the Wild gain points in 15 of the last 19 outings. Wild forwards Carson McMillan, Tyler Murovich and Warren Peters also scored in the lopsided win. Monsters goalie Sami Aittokallio (8-8-1) played the first two periods, stopping 24 of 28 shots in the loss. Lake Erie goalie Calvin Pickard (9-8-2) took over in the third period, saving seven shots as his team lost its fourth straight game. The Wild hosts Lake Erie this Saturday at 12:35 p.m. The Wild opened the scoring in the first period at 10:19 with a shorthanded and unassisted goal by forward Jake Dowell. The Iowa center skated in the Monsters zone on a 2-on-1, blasting in a slap shot for his sixth goal of the season. The Wild added another goal at 17:12, a power-play tally by Carson McMillan. The forward picked up a pass near the slot from Raphael Bussieres, one-timing the puck into the net. Iowa defenseman Jon Landry also picked up an assist on the play. The Monsters cut the lead in half at 18:44 with a goal by center Cam Reid. The Lake Erie forward fired a wrist shot near the left-wing circle for his first goal of the season. Monsters forwards Mitchell Heard and Ray Kaunisto each picked up an assist on the play. The Wild added another goal at 7:24 of the second period by forward Marc Hagel. The Iowa right wing chipped in a rebound for his second goal of the season. Dowell picked up an assist on the play, giving the Wild a 3-1 lead. The Wild continued to score at 10:13 with a goal by Warren Peters. The Iowa forward fired in a shot near the slot to give his club a 4-1 lead. Hagel and defenseman Brian Connelly each picked up an assist on Peters’ fourth goal of the season. The Wild continued to capitalize offensively at 5:43 of the third period with a goal by forward Tyler Murovich. Iowa’s Landry fed a cross-ice pass to Murovich, scoring his first goal of the season. Forward Jim McKenzie also picked up an assist for the 5-1 lead. The Wild concluded the scoring at 11:14 with a 5-on-3 power-play goal by Connelly. McKenzie and Zack Phillips each had an assist on Connelly’s second goal of the year for the 6-1 final. Iowa concludes a three-game homestand on Saturday at 12:35 p.m. Saturday is the first matinee home game with the 12:35 p.m. faceoff. The team celebrates Kids Winterfest with plenty of kids’ activities on the concourse and the first 5,000 fans receive ThunderSticks. It is also a Subway Family Four Pack Night.
