WILD TRIUMPHS OVER ICEHOGS IN 5-2 VICTORY

Iowa Extends Points Streak to Six Games

Des Moines, IA – The Iowa Wild (13-13-2-0, 28 points) defeated the Rockford IceHogs (15-14-3-0, 33 points) 5-2 in front of 6,151 fans at the Wells Fargo Arena on Thursday night. Wild forwards Erik Haula and Tyler Graovac scored a pair of goals 1:50 apart in the second period, helping extend the club’s points streak to six games (5-0-1-0). Iowa goalie John Curry (2-1-0) stopped 37 shots, including 17 in the third period, leading his team to victory. Haula and Iowa defenseman Steven Kampfer each picked up two points in the game (one goal and one assist) in the club’s third straight win against Rockford. Icehogs goalie Kent Simpson (6-10-0) stopped 26 shots in the loss. Iowa forwards Zack Phillips and Jake Dowell also scored, improving the club’s record to 7-10-1-0 at home. Iowa concludes a six-game homestand Sunday with a 4:05 p.m. meeting against Milwaukee.

After a scoreless first period, Iowa got on the scoreboard at 8:16 of the second period with a breakaway goal by forward Erik Haula. Wild defenders Jon Landry and Jonathon Blum each picked up an assist on Haula’s eighth goal of the season. The Wild increased the lead to 2-0 at 10:06 in the second period with a goal by Tyler Graovac. The Iowa forward tipped in a rebound, scoring his fifth goal of the season. Wild forwards Brett Bulmer and Raphael Bussieres each picked up an assist on the play. The Icehogs cut the lead in half at 2-1 with a shorthanded goal by forward Garret Ross at 12:29. The left winger found a loose puck after skating out of the penalty box, beating Iowa goalie John Curry on the backhand. The Wild responded a minute later with a power-play goal by defender Steven Kampfer, giving his club a 3-1 lead. The Iowa defenseman picked up a pass at the blueline from forward Warren Peters, beating Rockford goalie Kent Simpson with a wrist shot. Landry also picked up an assist on Kampfer’s third goal of the season.

Wild continued scoring at 12:41 of the third period with a power-play goal by Zack Phillips, giving his club a 4-1 lead. The forward beat Simpson in the slot off a centering pass from Haula, scoring his sixth goal of the season. Kampfer also picked up an assist on the goal. Rockford struck back at 17:10 with a goal by forward Brandon Mashinter, cutting the Wild’s lead in half at 4-2. Icehogs forwards Joakim Nordstrom and Garret Ross each picked up an assist on the play. The Wild sealed the win at 18:33 with an empty-net goal by forward Jake Dowell, increasing the lead to 5-2. Landry picked up the lone assist on the final goal of the game.
