The goal, scored by Valentin Zykov came just 6:42 into the contest. Carolina tacked on two more goals before intermission, to lead 3-0 after 20 minutes. Shots in the first period favored the Hurricanes, 14-8. In the second period Minnesota attempted to shift the momentum, registering 13 shots and generating some quality scoring chances. Zach Schroeder, the younger brother of Minnesota / Iowa forward Jordan Schroeder, buried a chance from the left side to cut the deficit to 4-2. However, the final seconds ticked down, and Minnesota dropped to 0-2 in the tournament. The Wild ended the night with a 29-24 edge in shots. Minnesota failed to score on their lone power play try, while the Hurricanes went 0-3. We were down 3-0 and could have easily packed it in. We had another injury where we lost a top-six guy [Anas]. And our guys responded very well – played a really good second period and then won the third period. That’s a good sign going forward for Monday.” NEXT UP: · Minnesota takes on the New York Rangers on Monday at 2 pm Central. - Wild Joe Radio
