The OC 3: Lions head to LA for the first timeThe Lions push forward as the road trip continues
The Lions are on the road this week, but back at the home office things are still rolling along. He are this week's top stories.1. Road swing halfway over - The pro team is halfway through their four game road swing, drawing against both Dayton and Pittsburgh this past weekend. Orlando now stands at 10-1-4 with 34 points, four more than second place Charleston. The Battery fell to Antigua last night to Antigua Barracuda 1-0, giving the Lions some cushion after earning two points from their recent road trip. Next up for City is Los Angeles, who’ve dropped their last two matches to fall back to the middle of the USL PRO table with a record of 5-5-2. The Lions and Blues have met only once, battling to a 1-1 draw back on May 24. The two-game series with the Blues kicks off on Friday, July 6, and wraps up on Sunday, July 8. Kickoff is set for 10:30 p.m. and 8 p.m., respectively. Both matches will be on USLNation.com. 2. U23s in the hunt - In thrilling fashion, the Orlando City U23s defeated Mississippi Brilla FC 5-3 on Friday behind a hat trick from new Lion McKauley Tulloch. Tulloch, a junior at the University of Central Florida, scored goals in the 19th, 45th and 51st minutes, leading a potent attack for the U23s all night in what was an exciting match between two competitive Southeast Division clubs. With the win, Orlando now stands at 5-2-4 with 19 points, good for fourth place in the division. The top two clubs in the Southeast, Ocala and IMG, have two games in hand over the Lions. Only five matches remain in the PDL regular season. Three of the five U23 games will be held at the Lions home venue of Seminole Soccer Complex, starting with a rematch of Friday’s duel against Mississippi. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m., with gates opening an hour beforehand. 3. Independence Day Banquet - On July 3, Orlando Union Rescue Mission (ORM) will be hosting an Independence Day Banquet to provide 600-800 meals to homeless men, women and children. Orlando City staff will be at the event, helping serve the meals to the many hungry people in Central Florida. The Mission holds four banquets every year, including Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter and Fourth of July. For more information on ORM and their July 4th banquet, visit www.ourm.org. |
