Lions in the Community: Foundation kicks off with Soccer and the CityThe first event for the Orlando City Soccer Foundation was a huge success!
The first event for the Orlando City Soccer Foundation was a huge success! More than 160 people turned up to Blue Martini on Tuesday, June 19, for Soccer and the City. The crowd filled the bar before the event began, turning the night into a standing-room-only event after an unexpected number of walk ups came to the charity fundraiser.During the night, the City players demonstrated the basic rules of the game, showing kick-offs, minor/major fouls and cards, throw-ins and the offside rule. The offside rule was explained to the women in a way they would understand, using bags and shoes (filmed in Tuni's in Winter Park). The ladies attending Soccer and the City were rewarded for learning all the rules in a crowd-pleasing like fashion, as Jamie Watson, Rob Valentino, Justin Clark and Charlie Campbell each took their shirts off as a reward for a correct answer in the wrap-up quiz. Throughout the night raffle tickets were sold for the chance to win any of the 14 prizes that included gift baskets from Magnolias Salon & Spa, Mary Kay and Salon Zion, along with passes to Sak Comedy Lab and Bonkerz Comedy Club. In total, the event raised $3,402, with all of the proceeds going toward the Orlando City Foundation. Soccer and the City was quickly followed with the Orlando City family joining the community to help the less fortunate. Last Saturday Orlando City hosted a Feeding Children Everywhere packing event. After collecting food on May 26, the team got together to pack meals for the less fortunate. The event marked the second year that fans and players, along with volunteers, joined together to pack meals to feed children in Central Florida through Feeding Children Everywhere's Love Local program. The Love Local program empowers schools and organizations with an efficient program to make an impact against the hunger epidemic in the United States. Upcoming Community Events: July 3, 10 a.m - 2 p.m. -- The team and front office staff will be at the Orlando Rescue Mission to serve food to the homeless.
