ORLANDO, Fla. – The Orlando City U23s dropped their first match of the 2012 PDL regular season to the Ocala Stampede by a score of 4-2 at Trinity Catholic High School in Ocala, Fla., on Saturday night. The Stampede scored three goals in the second half to grab the victory over the Lion U23s, taking sole possession of first place in the Southeast Division.

Ocala struck first in the 31st minute. After receiving a great feed past two Orlando City defenders from Midfielder Karamba Janneh, Ocala Forward Douglas Dos Santos sent Orlando City Defender Ryan Griffin the wrong way after a stop-and-go 18 yards outside the U23s goal. After the misdirection, Dos Santos sent a low-roller past Orlando Goalkeeper Keneil Baker to put the Stampede up 1-0.

Orlando responded with a goal of their own minutes later. Adama Mbengue split the Ocala defense after making a run of his own. Realizing he had been beat, Ocala Defender Mike Stephenson pulled the midfielder down from behind- resulting in a penalty kick for Orlando. Forward David Graydon put his penalty kick attempt past Ocala Keeper Steven Diaz in the lower right corner to tie the game at 1-1.

The two clubs went back and forth for their respective second goals of the match, with Jenneh, who assisted Ocala’s first goal, and Graydon scoring for the Stampede and the Lions in the 56th and 64th minutes, respectively.

In the 68th, Ocala took the lead once more after a scrum around goal from a Stampede free kick led to confusion for the crowd around the net. After the ball bounced up in the air between the two teams, Ocala’s Alex Harrison knocked in the goal, once again giving the fellow Southeast Division club the lead.

The Stampede’s fourth and final goal clinched the match in the 90th minute after Anthony Asante broke away from the Orlando backline and slotted home his first score of the season.

The Lions return home to face FC Jax Destroyers on June 8 at the Seminole Soccer Complex. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. The Destroyers have gotten off to a rough start in the 2012 season, dropping all four of their matches in PDL regular season play to begin the season 0-4-0.
