GW Takes Home 2010 Case Cup

2010 Case Cup Competition

The National Sports Forum would like to congratulate George Washington University for winning the 2010 Case Cup Competition coinciding with the 2010 National Sports Forum in Baltimore, MD.

The Saturday before the Forum began, ten of the top sports masters and sports MBA programs from around the country came together for a unique to compete in a multidisciplinary case study utilizing the skills obtained in their sports masters’ programs curricula. Those schools included Arizona State University, Georgetown University, George Washington University, Texas A&M University, University of Central Florida, University of Oregon, University of Memphis, UNC Charlotte, University of South Carolina, and defending champion Ohio University.

The 2010 case was developed and written by Navigate Marketing and focused on reducing the childhood obesity epidemic. Student teams were asked to create a new program that connects sports properties and corporate brands to fight this epidemic. Additionally, they were required to maximize awareness of the case, maximize profitability for each involved entity, and have a measurable impact on childhood obesity by 2015.

Each team had exactly 24 hours to draft a response to the case and had 20 minutes to present in front of a panel of judges made up of sports industry professionals and academic experts. The judges were: Andy Dolich, San Francisco 49ers; Greg Johnson, The Sports Philanthropy Project; Abe Madkour, Sports Business Journal / Sports Business Daily; Alice Petzold, Wasserman Media Group; Kristin Shaff, 24 Hour Fitness;  David Stotlar, University of Northern Colorado; and David Synowka, Robert Morris University. Following the presentations, judges asked follow up questions for 10 minutes.

After much deliberation, our panel of judges awarded George Washington University as the 2010 Case Cup Champion. The NSF would like to thank all the students, school directors and judges for participating in this great event. We look forward to seeing if George Washington can repeat as champions in Louisville!
