Dear Faithful Readers,

Growing up in San Diego my entire life I have never really experienced the change of seasons. For me and my fellow San Diegans, Fall usually means the temperature has dropped from 75 to 72. Even though there is not much change in the weather here you may have noticed a change to the top of this “Selling It…” article. We have a new presenting sponsor, BioTE Medical, LLC.

Here at the NSF, we couldn’t be more pleased to partner with a company like BioTE Medical, LLC. BioTE Medical, LLC is based out of Texas and is one of the leading Certified Medical Practitioners providing pellet therapy nationwide.

This week’s story features an awesome program from Minor League Baseball. As a dog fan, I definitely need to look into getting a jersey like this!

Enjoy the read,

Ryan Heidrich

PROGRAM TITLE

El Paso Chihuahuas: The Dog Show

El Paso Chihuahuas

OBJECTIVES

The El Paso Chihuahuas wanted to create a fun and family-friendly way to shed light not only on their team, but also their incredibly supportive hometown community.  By taking an existing annual event common in Minor League Baseball, they hoped to raise ticket sales, with the ultimate goal of raising awareness for a great cause.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

As an ode to their canine mascot, Chico the Chihuahua, the Chihuahuas decided to step up their game with this year’s annual Bark at the Park event that took place on Sunday, August 3, 2014.  Beyond welcoming fan’s pets to the stadium, the Chihuahuas designed a number of promotions in the form of giveaways and auctions: The first 2,000 attendees received a free bobble-head of Chico, and specially designed jerseys were auctioned off to fans directly from the players.

Fans also had a chance to name the newest member of the Chihuahua’s front office-a rescued Chihuahua from the Humane Society of El Paso.  Votes for each possible name in the Name the Dog Contest (Lola, Ruby, Reina, Estrella and Rosa) came in the form of $1 donations to the Humane Society.  In the end, Lola won, and she was proudly introduced at the game.

Building on this community involvement, the Chihuahuas also presented Dino, a military dog, who was with Staff Sergeant Christopher Diaz when he was killed in action in 2011.

PARTNERSHIP

The Chihuahuas partnered with GECU and the Humane Society of El Paso.  GECU is a locally owned financial institution, dedicated to helping members fund a variety of projects.  The Humane Society is a non-profit no-kill shelter for rescued animals in the El Paso area. Both partners saw positive results from this event.

RESULTS

Bark at the Park turned out to be extremely successful for the Chihuahuas and those involved. Their creative jerseys were featured on ESPN when host Keith Olbermann wore one on his daily show, garnering national attention. Ultimately, the auctioning of these jerseys and the donations from the Name the Dog Contest raised $20,000 for the Humane Society.  In the end, the game sold out, increasing ticket sales for the Chihuahuas.

As Tori Stein, Manager of Promotions states, “We believe in living our brand, and being the Chihuahuas there was no better way than to take Bark at the Park to the next level. We were thrilled that this promotion accomplished all of our goals. It was fun and innovative, it got us national attention, it sold tickets, it raised awareness for a great cause and ultimately saved the life of our new front office member, Lola.”

LOOKING AHEAD

The Chihuahuas plan to participate in Bark at the Park for years to come.  Both the fans and the team enjoyed the event, as it brought the community closer than ever to the team.  Already planning for the 2015 Bark at the Park, the Chihuahuas hope to continually improve upon the planning and promotions to focus on increasing the fan experience as much as possible.
