Dear Faithful Readers,
What a perfect time for us to pick a story about the NFL with the 2014 NFL Draft just 8 days away. I can't think of a more exciting event for a league offseason then the draft. Hopefully my Chargers will get lucky and one of the talented defensive backs will fall their way!
This story about the Green Bay Packers and Live Sport Radio is pretty cool and I can't imagine why other teams and venues wouldn't want to use this technology. As teams search for ways to get the in-stadium experience more valuable, adding live commentary and broadcasts to fans is huge.
Enjoy the feature,
Ryan

PROGRAM TITLE
Green Bay Packers: Game Day Radios
|
|
OBJECTIVES
With the incredible amount of live, high definition coverage that televisions have to offer, teams have been finding that some of the most dedicated fans are no longer in the stadium, but instead getting minute by minute live coverage at home on their couch. The Green Bay Packers have teamed up with Live Sports Radio to bring live coverage back to stadiums with the creation of Packers Game Day Radios. These personal radios, given to their Premium Seat Holders, aim to not only increase the value of a Premium Seat experience, but keep fans in attendance in tune with the game, receiving live coverage at every moment.
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Live Sports Radios has created personal radios for fans to be able to enjoy live coverage of sporting events without delay. The radios are small, usually branded with the team logo, and come with branded ear buds for the fan as well. These Game Day radios allow the fans to completely immerse themselves into the feed they are listening to while getting live views of the game from the venue. These pre-tuned radios appeal to fans because they eliminate the delay that comes with HD and transistor radios. Although the delay can be as little as seven seconds, with these Game Day radios, the feed is completely live. Live Sports Radio makes this possible by rerouting popular delayed feeds, from regular radio feeds to television feeds such as FOX Sports. By picking up and rerouting these feeds to make them live for the fans at the game, they are able to provide fans with extensive coverage of every aspect of the game happening in front of them. The Packers Game Day Radios have even been set up with FM settings, helping to extend not only the branding of the Packers since their radios have the Green Bay logo, but also extending the legs of this activation and integrating it in to other aspects of the community. These radios can be reused at each game and are valid for the whole season.

PARTNERSHIP
The Packers teamed up with Live Sports Radio to create these branded radios for their fans. Live Sports Radio has worked with the NFL for 5 years, providing radios for them during the NFL Draft, Combine, and even this year’s Superbowl. Live Sports Radio has seen massive growth in the past few years, experiencing 20-percent bottom-line growth annually since 2010. Live Sports Radio provides teams with a unique, highly visible branding opportunity that will enhance the game day experience for the fans.
RESULTS
The Packers have seen very positive feedback since the launch of these game day radios. Premium Seat Holders have found value in these radios, and have given such positive feedback that the Packers plan to make these radios available to more sections of seats as well. As far as results for Live Sports Radio, they have seen exponential growth and high retention rates within their company. They have noticed that once fans are exposed to these radios, they become an expected staple at the games. They are expected to ship 110,000 units to NFL clients this year, up from 5,000 in 2008.
LOOKING AHEAD
For the foreseeable future, the Packers are planning to give their Premium Seat Holders the radios before the season starts, ensuring that they have it ready for the first game of the season. In addition to continuing to give these radios to Premium Seat Holders, they plan to sell them to the general bowl season seat holders as well. Live Sports Radio President Jim Knapp states that going forward, Live Sports Radio “is hoping to continue to bridge the gap between the in-home and in-venue experience while providing teams, leagues, and sponsors a powerful touch point with their consumers”.
