PROGRAM TITLE
Splash Piggybank Scavenger Hunt
OBJECTIVES
The Stockton Ports' goal for the 2010 season is to drive more traffic to their website while increasing fan interaction through their social networking sites.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The scavenger hunt idea was first created by Brandon Berns, Director of Marketing for the Delmarva Shorebirds, a sister franchise of the Ports. Because both teams are owned by 7th Inning Stretch LLC, communication and ideas between the two teams are very common. Once the Shorebirds had seen success with their scavenger hunt program, the idea was passed along for the Ports to implement.

The Ports decided to launch an area-wide scavenger hunt for a Splash Piggybank, a piggybank belonging to the Ports Mascot, Splash. Each day the Ports issued a clue to its location on their website, www.stocktonports.com, as well as their social networking sites on Facebook, MySpace and Twitter. The fan to find the Splash Piggybank and return it to the Ports Front Office would win 4 Field Box tickets to a Ports game as well as 2 Field Level tickets to an Oakland A's game, the Ports Major League affiliate.

A Splash Piggybank, named after the Ports' Mascot, was the hidden item

MEDIA
The Ports began the program with a press release announcing the promotion. Each day on the team website, the press release was updated with a new clue to find the piggybank. The new clue was also posted on Facebook, MySpace and Twitter, directing fans back to the team website for all the clues.

PARTNERS
The Ports were proud to partner with one of their Champion Partners, Chase Chevrolet. The team activated their partnership by hiding the Splash piggybank in the glove compartment of a 1964 white Corvette Stingray in their facility showroom. The partnership not only drove more traffic into the Chase dealership, but was able to generate positive publicity for both organizations.

RESULTS

The Ports were extremely happy with the results of the promotion. Reviewing the web traffic for the month of February, the highest number of page views on their website was on days where a scavenger hunt clue was posted. More than 1,000 page views were made each day a clue was posted. Ports' Director of Marketing, Justin Gray, reiterated these feelings, stating, "The scavenger hunt was a great interactive feature that brought a lot of attention to our social media pages and website. Chase Chevrolet was great to work with and happy to provide a place to hide Splash's piggybank. We hope to do this a few more times throughout the year with more great prizes for our fans."

The Madill family were the winners of the Splash Piggybank Scavenger Hunt.

LOOKING AHEAD
The Ports were so happy with the success of the scavenger hunt, they plan to run another to generate interest for Opening Day as well as another for a big date later in the season.
