Breaking Forum News...
The 2nd Annual "Ad It Up Awards" finalists have been announced. The "Ad It Up Awards" is the preeminent national, sports-only advertising award program, and will be showcased at the National Sports Forum in Pittsburgh, January 20-22, 2003. Hundreds of submissions from teams across North America, of all leagues, and levels were considered. This year's awards are divided in five categories: best television spots, best radio commercials, best print (newspaper, periodicals and sales collateral), best out-of-home (billboard, transit) and best environmental advertising (using any medium not listed above that inserts itself into the community). For a list of finalists in each category, click here.

ORGANIZATION: New Orleans Saints

PROGRAM TITLE: Post-Game Boxing

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: In "Veeckian" like style, the New Orleans Saints have come up with one of the more creative promotions in recent years. As added entertainment value to New Orleans Saints ticket-holders, the Saints will stage a three-bout boxing card at the Louisiana Superdome, in conjunction with Kingfish Boxing Productions, 45 minutes after the club's Dec. 29 regular-season finale vs. Carolina. All ticket-holders to the Saints-Carolina contest will be invited to remain after the football game to witness the bouts.

The first two bouts will be world-class professional fights, while the Final match will give any fan that has been "fighting mad" about Saints ticket policies a chance to act on those feelings. This third bout will be a promotional fight in which a randomly-selected ticket-holder gets to "duke it out" with Saints ticket manager Mike Stanfield for two rounds.

Any fan who bought tickets for the Saints' Nov. 24 game vs. Cleveland or Dec. 15 game vs. Minnesota, or any fan who buys tickets for the Dec. 29 game vs. Carolina, can fill out a form to be eligible to participate in the bout vs. Stanfield. One fan will be selected at random a week before the bout, and entry forms are available at the Saints ticket box offices.

RESULTS: Under Fielkow's guidance, the Saints have shown a willingness to try just about anything in order to pack the Superdome. Clearly, this promotion is no exception to that rule! The Saints are confident that with this promotion, the season-finale vs. Carolina will be the club's 22nd-consecutive sell out. Aside from ticket sales, this boxing promotion has also generated a tremendous 'buzz' in the media both in New Orleans and nationally.
